The Mods here are little more aggressive than some other forums I have frequented.

I think though this has a lot to do with certain threads being hijacked and other quite annoying behavior.

It is a very difficult balance to keep an open forum whilst dealing with those who abuse it.

I have been a moderator myself some years ago on an MMO fansite and modding can be hectic. I do understand why moderators don't really have time to chat it up. That isn't really what a moderator is for. We had people who were responsible to keep the forum members occupied but they weren't called moderators. I do believe the forum was a lot less aggressive than this one but we still had our fair share of "in before the lock" and other such nonsense posts.

Even though the amount of reports were hectic we did still take the time to note why a thread got locked. I don't know what the policy is there though. Maybe there is a lot less official rules on how to deal with threads or posts which are against the rules of conduct.

And about repeat topics deserving to be flamed, why? Nobody is forcing anyone to read a repeat topic. It doesn't help anyone to just insult the forum member for doing so. It is always best to either just ignore or report if you must. Calling someone a retard or an idiot doesn't help anyone.

Thats one of the things I was suggesting; The MODS should give a reason for the lock, and if it is a repeat topic, provide a link to said previously existing thread. As I said in the original post, DeffPony locked a thread and said "there is already a topic on this in the forum" without providing a link to said thread.  Also, users whose topics are deleted, have no way of knowing why, and should be PM'd by the MOD who removed it stating why it was removed so as to negate the chance of the user doing it again.

I understand your point, OP. We should tone it down with the 'lock, inb4lock' stuff. I, personally, have only seen myself doing it a couple times and that was out of sheer boredom; maybe that should stop though.

Also, when threads get deleted, they're for an obvious purpose. I mean, usually some people post stuff in the 'News' without realizing it, or make a duplicate thread that has been a topic before.

I think the topic leaders (deffpony, miamivicecity) do an awesome job at participating, at least from what I've seen.

Ive been here since 2007, joined before GTA IV came out.

This place was THE place to come for leaks/theories/speculation and analysis; now its devolved into something thats a shadow of its former self.

No it hasn't.  This forum came up with a map very close to the game map; it has catalogued all of the vehicles, weapons and even businesses that appeared in the trailers and screens.  In fact, there are two threads dedicated to sorting out speculations from fact. If anything, it's an improvement over the past.

Hmm. I can't say the moderators on this forum are a little more aggressive than on the forums I have visited. I think this forum is rather tame actually. For far too long we have to do with zidane because this forum doesn't even hand out IP bans out of fear of blocking legit users. The forum I moderated we did deal out IP bans. It did reduce the amount of trolling. Sure some people still had to complain about "abuse of power" but that comes with the territory.

*where's that 'clapping-audience' gif?

I couldn't agree with you more op. I also understand that the mods have a hard enough job as it it, but that should'nt excuse some of the pure pretentious arrogance that some of them display from time to time - Ryan + Prometheus being the worst.

I would like to think of this place as a fun community for GTA fans, and not some online Nazi boot camp.

As fair as I can see, most V section moderators participate in discussion at some point. Just because we don't post 100 times a day, doesn't mean we aren't involved in the community. Whenever I am active, I'm always in this section, it's just choosing when to post.

And really, to put the spotlight on staff for the reputation of this place is not even slightly fair. Some of you sit there and call us all c*nts and nazis, do you think you could do a better job of wading through pictures of sh*t, porn, banning people that make 50 accounts a day and warning people for the most idiotic comments ever known to man? I honestly don't think so.

The amount of spam in this section is unforgiving and it makes ALL of you look bad, 'inb4lock' 'lock and ban' memes, gifs and smilies and downright rude attitude is a trend, but then again, this is the Internet. Do you really expect much more from a gang of guys who only care about one thing? Their e-penis. Do you think this is all of our fault because we lock or bin a topic without posting a reason why? I don't think so.

There are some awesome members in this forum who contribute their best to topics, help staff by reporting things and never let a troll get the better of them by displaying bad attitude. I respect these members completely because being an active, non-asshole, member of these forums is a very hard job. And in fact it is only these members that get the opportunity to be staff, so suggest we do a terrible job because we're evil dictators that never contributed nothing is a bit far.

This thread is diplomacy at its best. But seriously though I am glad this was pinned and it needed to be addressed. Also the reply right after OP proves his point even further but the mods do participate somewhat from what I have seen. Either way people need to practice patience instead of losing it because someone is less informed, as annoying as it can be remember you're no God and you at some point were just as ill informed and excited. Thanks Mods and OP

I feel like youre missing my point and arguing sematics. YES analyzing threads and such, but I was using those to describe how this place isnt the De Facto site anymore for such things. Is it well known? Yes, but its not anything like it was before GTA IV

Childish audience is something that keeps me away from taking people here seriously, a lot of people. Thats why im glad R* invested again in SP. Its the interwebs, dont take all offences here seriously, but i agree in parts, there are much more idiots then ever, but you gotta agree most topic creators really dont even bother searching.

This guy right here is the stuff I'm talking about. You called me a bitch for what reason? Did you need to call me names to get your point across? For the record, complaining about backseat moderating is in no way backseat moderating; telling you that you should be banned for your inability to communicate thoughtfully with a human being on the internet would be backseat moderating.

That being said, its a free country, but just because you can be an overzealous jerk.

Quit banning trolls! They are funny and provide laughter. Instead start banning people like wayne kerr and others who flame people for funny comments on threads such as the mapping topic

I will defend myself since I can only speak for myself.

First of all, I almost always comment in a thread before locking it, unless it is completely ridiculous. And I frequently supply appropriate links directing members where to take their discussions. However, due to the site update, I lost all my referenced topics, so more recently I have just been locking and telling members to do the search themselves, like they should have to begin with.

I think I am a very fair forum leader. I have often times heard people out over PM even when they were initially being rude with me. Here is an example of a thread I locked the other day. I could have just locked or binned it, but I decided to give some useful input:

http://gtaforums.com...st&p=1063228567

As far as not engaging with the community, that is complete bullsh*t. Yes, my interaction as a general member has gone down, but thats because everytime I log on, Im bombarded with reports and pm's, and what used to be a nice chance to post my thoughts on the forum, has become diluted by my responsibilities as a staff member. But I still take the time to post my opinions and ideas around here.

As I said before, I can only speak for myself, but I dont think your argument holds any water when in reference to me.

I take it you just jumped to the end of the thread and commented. I stated earlier Im just hanging out playing games and cruising the forums. Im not upset in the slightest, its just the way youre reading my comments.

Thank you for your input Kirsty, much appreciated.

But I agree completely; the people when they choose to address the MODS use horrible descriptors. They could, like Im sure youve seen me do multiple times, post something that elaborates on WHY they dislike what the MODS are doing.

I feel Im very cordial in the way Im speaking; I do not down talk you to a degree that is insulting and would also like to point out that Im not specifically calling you guys out. Im also talking about the way forum users talk to each other.

I'm way more annoyed with 18-20 yr olds trying to be oh so grownup on here than how the mods are handling things..

It's not the trolls that ruin forums, it's all the wannabe smartasses.. they're all pretty much identical too, goddamn annoying high horse riding do-gooders.

I only see people beeing rude to stupid treads, trying mostly to be funny, not about their  E-penises like someone said. So much drama, but again, its annoying too. Point; Why is this pinned! Mods are ok! And childish users will aways be childish. Maybe is a complaining tread?

What I'm curious about is why we aren't allowed to discuss leaks, yet there are many open topics regarding the leaked map?

I try to be respectful when people make topics that already exist.  Unlike myself, some people don't follow the forums like crazy, reading every single detail, knowing which threads exist and which don't.  All they need to do is take a pause before creating a thread instead of rushing to be "first", and check the news section and the first 3 pages of the forums to see if it already exists, or they can use the handy dandy search function, which I hear works better than the previous one.

That's just my tiny, not so rant-ish rant.

@ Above poster

I remember a mod/forum leader saying the map is allowed here unless Rockstar asks them to take the map down.  Rockstar hasn't said anything about it yet so the map can stay.

Yea, but some of you guys get mad over stupid things like repeat messages, backseat mods (which you're doing now), and people being rude. Forums will always be like this, it's the internet. People have a voice on here and aren't afraid to use it. That added with all the excitement around here, people are acting out even more. Once the game comes out it will settle down and go back to the same old tired trolling, and there's nothing you or anybody can do about it. So why try. Just ignore them, learn to deal with it, and let the mods handle the trolls. Making topics like these only adds fuel to the fire.

As I said before, I can only speak for myself, but I dont think your argument holds any water when in reference to me.

It does hold true against you and you even proved my point by stating your interaction level is almost non-existent. If you cant handle all the PMs and such, you shouldnt be a moderator. If you lost all your reference materials, thats not our fault. Compile a new list, and do what you were promoted to do. You were obviously chosen to be a forum leader because of your extensive involvement and time put into this forum. A new user may not know where the search button is, and in the time it took you to go into a topic and lock it you could have searched the topic yourself and provided the necessary information. Granted that you do this in your spare time, but you chose to accept the responsibility.

Also, you have a LINK to a poll about speculated leak related content and when we think it will be out. Hypocrisy much?

Granted most of us are adults, but did you need to swear in order to get your point across? Your vocabulary is, im assuming, better than that. You could have used better wording.

I never said you werent a fair forum leader, I just stated some observations on your behavior in the forums; extremely lock/delete happy.

The most Ive seen AS OF LATE, is simple, one sentence descriptors as to why it was locked, if you even provided one. My topic was locked earlier with no explanation, only later to be pinned because someone was obviously in agreement with me.

Again, Im not bashing the MODS, just stating observations in a well-thought and respectful manner. At the same time, Im calling out most of  the community for its disrespect and inability to interact with other human beings via the internet,
