I can't believe it. After 6 years of loyal service my 40g PS3 is dying on me at the worse time possible! The irony of this is i bought it just to play GTA IV 6 years ago!

This is becoming a bit of a tradition for me. It seems like everytime a GTA game comes out i have to buy a new console. Same thing happened with San Andreas when my ps2 broke down a few days before release!

I'm getting graphical glitches in most games i play and then it freezes shortly after   Not sure whats wrong with it but i'm pretty sure its terminal. Pretty pissed that i might have to force myself to folk out upto 100 quid just for one game.

My 360 keeps disconnecting from our wireless randomly so hopefully it sorts itself out before GTA-O

Try eBay. All you need is a console without controllers etc. cheap as chips.

I'm always wary buying electronic goods from ebay. I've heard alot of horror stories. I might attempt to replace the thermal paste on the heat sinks. I've heard that usually patches it up for atleast  a good few months.

I had problems like that as well. There are two things you can try to fix this. One is clean the lens on the blue ray player - involves taking the ps3 apart which isn't so difficult and there're youtube videos to show you how to do it. The other thing you can do is replace the hard drive, which is a very easy job. Depends on the model of ps3 you have, but with mine I was able to get a laptop hard drive for about 60 euros and it gives me 500 gigs on the ps3. I'd try cleaning the lens on the blue ray first if I was you. It's probably just that.

I agree with this. Try solving the problem yourself before spending any money, like this guy said it may be the blu-ray lens that needs a clean. Search around the internet and diagnose the issue, from there people should/may have solutions.

1. Try replacing HD

2. Clean Blu Ray Lens

3. Take apart, heat the motherboard up, apply new thermal paste.

If none of them work then looks like you'll need to get a new PS3.

Buy a old ps3, they're dirt cheap. I saw one at cash converters for £42.

My old PS3 recently had YLOD, I had it repaired then it died again but it had warranty so I had it repaired again. It is still working but I am not buying gta 5 for PS3. Fortunately I have a 360, although I would rather buy it for PS3.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Tease him for he's PS3 dieing before GTA V releases? That's not very nice and machines and equipment break down after heavy use so there's no need to tease him for it. Geez when are these forums going to have Kind people instead of fools that tease people for bad luck and stuff.

ive left my gaming ps3 off as much as i can so theres no danger of anything happening to it lol.

My 360 keeps disconnecting from our wireless randomly so hopefully it sorts itself out before GTA-O

That has got nothing to do with your console failing, most likely has to do with interference on the Wi-Fi channel (Neighbors), poor placement or your router.

- Try figuring out how much Wireless channels you can find in your area, check what channel they are on and what strength.

If you notice more than one wireless network being on channel 11 (just an example) then change yours to 12.

- If your signal strength is low then the problem is fairly straightforward, buy a repeater or place your console closer to the AP.

-  If more than one of your devices in the same area as your xbox/ps3 have that issue while the signal strenght is good and you're on a clear channel.. time to replace your router.

For gaming however i'd always recommend a wired connection.

This or send it to Sony (if you try to do it yourself they might not fix it for free)

Sony won't fix a 6-year-old machine :p The warranty is 2 years..

Open it up and clean it out. I make no promises but it may help.

I had the same issues a year ago and my system was full of dust. Cleaning it out prolonged it's life for another 7 months but it died in the end.

I was having issues such as GTA4's world loading but no cars or peds, FIFA loading the stadium and ball but no players. After cleaning it out games worked perfectly until it got the YLOD.
