"It doesn’t take long to reach the heart of the hood – Franklin clearly hasn’t moved that far away. It’s a familiar cul-de-sac, intimidatingly fringed by rundown houses and shifty huddles of gang members – it’s Grove Street, the home of San Andreas’s protagonist, CJ. And the gang we’re negotiating with for a kilo of coke? The Ballas."

"We jump out of the van and follow Lamar up to one of the houses. I can feel a thousand eyes watching my every movement. I don’t feel safe. "

" I feel genuinely unsafe, surrounded by seriously pissed off gangsters. Trapped at the bottom of Grove Street, we’re as good as dead. We all know it."

okay so we know Grove street is back, but from the sounds of the above article from IGN it sounds like Ballas live here now... has anyone noticed this?

im guessing by the end of the game you take back Grove street for the families

it doesn't add up. why would the home of grove street families be home to the ballas? maybe they kept the gang title for less identity confusion after getting kicked out. who knows.

I think so...or at least that's how it seemed to be. Maybe the Ballas have finally took over Grove Street.

the name of the gang was never Grove Street it was The Families.... Since there was a Families set on Grove Street they were called Grove Street Families... like S.B.F and T.D.F

In this universe the Ballas have a set on the street most likely making that set the Grove Street Ballas aka G.S.B

MY GOD MAN PUT SPOILERS IN THE SUB-TITLE! .... oh wait, the new forums dont have sub titles...

anyways yes the Ballas own Grove Street. Though it IS possible in this universe they always had it since the events of GTA:SA never actually existed in the HD universe, maybe Grove/Families never actually owned it

Since this game takes place many years after GTA: SA, i'm sure it'll be explained that the Ballas eventually took over Grove Street.... and maybe explain what happened to the Johnson Brothers

I think the Ballas grew big and overthrew the Families off Grove Street. Perhaps that's why the Families moved to a different area/street?

As Frankiln, I would be off to bigger and better things than gang wars. Call my Franklin a traitor all you want, he is going to be the black suit wearing professional crinimal that is also a vigilante.

Point taken. But surely every now and then when you some adrenaline-fuelled excitement, the way to go is a classic, explosive gang war? I'm gonna be much more excited at blasting at rival gangs in shootouts to take control of turf, than being a vigilante that's for sure.

That's pretty much the definition of an 'alternate universe'. The  stronghold of one of the more infuential Orange Grove Families sets (GSF) is now the home of the ballas.. Wouldn't be surprised if the families are around Glen park\Mirror park w\e.

Ha, I knew R* wouldn't pass up such an opportunity to f*ck with their fans. Looks like in the HD universe, there never was a Grove Street Families set, but a Grove Street Ballas.

I just find it so funny.

It makes sense if you think about it...in San Andreas, the families took over sh*t at the end, but still pressing the "no dope in the hood" theory hard.  The only gang making real money were the Ballas, being the prime gangs selling the sh*t.  Regardless of how much territory the families had, the money from petty robberies is no match to the steady fast money of drug dealing, so the ballas always had more money.  More money gets more guns.  More guns means easier gang take down.  sad to say, but without that drug money flow, they never had a chance against ballas.  Plus after a while, families would want a peice of the action and probably wouldve sold out to the ballas in exchange for a hold on the drug trade.  With all that time past from then to now, it is highly possible Grove Street couldve been taken over,  quite easily too.  With links to lamar being in the drug trade as of NOW, seems the families mustve got smart and joined in with the easy money which is why they're still major players in the gangbang sh*t.  think about it, thats how it goes.

Dan houser said that grove street was controlled by gsf, He said they were called gsf because that's were the gang started, but then he also said that, the ballas either took over, or the members went to go live a better life in the mission hood safari it was mentioned they lost grove street it may be a different universe, but in this one they lost it like in gta sa they lost grove street to the ballas in some mission but took it back might be the opposite. either way the families still owned it.
