With the latest website update under Fitness & Relaxation we have:

- Cycling Competitive Cycling is a confirmed feature

- Hiking

- Triathlons Triathlons is a confirmed feature

- BMX Biking There are dirt tracks specific for BMX riding, perhaps competitions too

- Tennis Tennis is a confirmed feature

- Swimming Competitive Swimming seems likely, as a part of Triathons at least, but possible standalone feature

So all the advertised sports are basically confirmed as playable features/mini games in the game ie. competitive cycling, triathlons, and tennis.

But where does that leave Hiking? How would going "Hiking" differ to just running around and jumping up the mountains like we would in any other free roam game?

I'm wondering if Hiking is an actual activity now, how it would work (do we actually take a hiking bag with us for a campsite or something), and are there specific controls and animations for hiking that makes rock climbing etc possible?

I wanted to know this as well. I wonder how it'll work if it is in.

I doubt that at all. If anything there be trails in the mountains you walk and maybe overlooks. But you could easily use a bike or car. By the way what your describing is backpacking. hiking more of a day activity and backpacking is overnight.

I guess I mean if there will be elements of rock climbing involved or something slightly more advanced than the usual, running and jumping GTA style..

I hope climbing mountains on foot is a real challenge. That will make the countryside feel even bigger IMO.

If you watch the Egochaser video, there's a guy climbing the mountain. That and the "Hiking" webpage, I'm just wondering if this means hiking will be it's own minigame or if we're expected to just run and jump like normal.

I'm hoping it possibly means there's more animation involved, where we can actually grab onto a ledge and pull ourselves up a cliff face, you know... like rock climbing.

Maybe when hiking you have to get to a certain peak, outcropping, etc without using vehicles? I really can't see the point in a hikin minigame.

Only way i can see hiking turned into a minigame is if its a race to the top of a mountain.

Looks like a pretty steep cliff. Be kinda cool if the only way to reach some peaks was by rockclimbing/hiking. That gear has gotta be for something too.

That person was definitely hiking up that mountain. Also, as previously noted above, that is a fairly steep cliff. I don't think it will be a minigame per se; rather something you're able to do anytime, but if you wanted to prepare for it you can, i.e. get supplies to climb with rope.

Think about it, its not at all implausible; we've already seen the mission were micheal is repelling from the helicopter down the face of the building in order to kidnap that guy.

It wouldn't be hard to implement it into something that's fully accessible in other areas of the game during free roam.

I don't understand how hiking will function, I'm going to let GTA surprise me on that one. But I think it's a probable activity, would easily lengthen the game that Rockstar hopefully have used to their advantage.

I honestly don't believe it will just be an activity where you walk into a designated spot and it activates hiking as an activity.

Rather, you can walk up to a cliff or hill and your character automatically starts climbing. Simple yet engaging; all you do is press in the direction you want to climb. It won't be like tomb raider, but it will be well fleshed out.

I'd consider hiking an activity. especially if there are trails designed for hiking only.

In that sense yes but I feel like you will be able to do it anywhere; possibly even be able to climb on top of one story buildings like convenience stores in order to break in if they're closed.

Off-Topic, but I really hope robbing houses is back in. That was such an awesome side activity that could have been fleshed out a bit more.

I Agree, I think the summits of most mountains will be too steep to get to in a vehicle so you have to climb up. I think if there was an activity to do with it then like elemental suggested it'll probably be like a race against someone.

After seeing the map it looks like each peak has an icon on it.

maybe after you reach every peak, hiking required the whole way up, you unlock something or just get closer to 100% completion.

The biggest challenge in Hiking is resisting the urge to eat all your cheese sandwiches & draining your flask of tea in the first hour.

I'm guessing that yoga+hiking is something like collectibles. Get to the top of the mountain > do yoga > counts towards your collectibles.

I wanted to know this too. What is the difference between walking up a mountain like you would in any other game, compared to ''hiking'' up one? Isn't it basically the same thing? Are they just labeling walking in the game as ''hiking'' in the country side, making it seem like an extra activity? I'm curious to know what will make hiking meaningful.

IMO it is something which sounds cool but in reality i doubt many would do it. Not more than once in any case.

You know hiking IS walking, right?

The difference in-game is that it seems to be making it an activity by requiring you to hike to each peak to get to 100%.

I'll be doing it for sure, but not for 100%, just for the fun of making it up to each peak on foot.

I know what it is, but will something trigger once you reach a mountain? Will "Hiking" initiate? What makes it different from the normal walking in the game?

im guessing that instead of the regular run and jumping motion, you can press x or square, and the animations will be different. or even pressing y or triangle like climbing ladders

and im talking about when rock climbing, as shown in the past
