I personally have no idea how the stock market works, and that is one thing I'm afraid will hurt my gameplay with GTAV. In both single and online, you could lose alot, if not all your money invested in certain stocks. I think R* should release a video going into more detail about how stocks affect the gameplay. I'm not saying released it today, but maybe before or even the day of the game comes out just so we know something.

You will probably get a short explanation in the game itself.

It's not a hard concept to understand, just Google it. If you don't get it in 5 minutes, don't do it in GTA 5, because you'll probably fail at it.

Or maybe their explanation wil be better. Doubt it though.

No.

It's simple. You buy as many shares as you want/can at the lowest price possible then sell at the highest possible price. Obviously you don't know when it will be at it's highest/lowest so it's just a guessing game and chancing your luck.

Thanks I kinda figured that. But I'm guessing it is true that certain things we do in the game affect stock prices?

Unless...

You want to cheat and buy shares and then personally intervene in order to make sure that they rise in their value, let's say you buy a few stocks in a pizza company, go and destroy a few of their vans and the price of the stock will rise.

Simple.

From what i read, you can have an influence on the stock market based on your actions.

Another reason why this game is geared more toward adults.

Yeah, most likely there will be events that will affect the share price of a company.

For example, if you go into a car dealership and steal/destroy all their cars then it will make their share price drop (I assume). You then go buy some shares while it's at a low price. After some time the price will go back up then you can sell your shares and make a profit.

Buy low, sell high. About all you need to know really. At least in a game based stock market.

Hey, I'm in the same boat. You gotta have money to play with to start dabbling in the stock market, which is why I never did lol.

Wouldn't it be the other way round?

If you buy Pizza shop shares and destroy there vans shares will drop in value due to the company being at risk!

shares prices normally increase when a company does well not losing it assets.

if im wrong then i will keep away from the stocks lol

How is that going to make the stocks price rise?

That would lower the price? It's not like the pizza company will sell more pizzas from your example..

Its not bad. There are tons of people who dont mess with the stock market. But something to learn about because many retirement accounts make or lose money because the companies managing them invest that money into the market. The stock market is basically a gamble. You invest money to own a portion of the company if the company does well you get money from dividends and increased stock price. If they lose money then you lose the invested money all together or just a portion from the devaluation of the stock. If there is a start up that you feel is going to do well you buy the stock early in hopes that they will make a large profit driving the stock price up which you then in turn sell or keep and reinvest the dividends.

OP The stock market is like this in basic terms.

You Buy stuff.

You wait for the stuff to raise a bit more in price.

You sell stuff when it's a higher price.

You make Profit.

Hope this helped. Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

Basically yes. Company makes money then the stock holders make money. If they lose money the stock devalues and you lose some of what you invested.

You will probably learn yourself when playing the game,
but they still didn't add the last couple of parts in their sort of tour of Los Santos guide thing:
http://www.rockstargames.com/V/

So maybe one of them will show a bit about it, I wonder if its the: "Opportunity for the upwardly mobile" , or maybe its in a short section in: "exciting music and entertainment" / "Lovely Accommodations" / "Security & peace of mind".

I wouldnt imagine it would be. I do wonder if dividends will be paid out or if its really just a buy/sell deal.

The pizza van explanation doesn't work. The company loses money and would have to replace the vans. Leslie Benzies explanation, which was to invest in a car company, blow up or steal those types of cars, then the stock will rise, works because you're blowing up the customer's cars. The car company would then make money, because insurance covers the cars for the customers and buys them from the car company. So the original stock has a surge in profit, because the car company does as well.

Good question. I think it would be kind of cool if we did get taxed on investment income. That way it would make us think twice about how often we pull out money from the stock market.
