I am not proud of my country. I don't like the politics, I don't agree with the laws, I dislike the people, finding a job is a pain, I'm moving out of here as soon as I can. I am unable to be greatful or show respect for this land.

Not exactly. We're living a pretty sad, hard situation, and many take it as an inspiration with their stupid "Narco Corridos". Most people should be drinking by 15 to be cool, and the government steals everything, they would take your nuts' last hair if they could. Luckily, not everyone is like this, so I try not to lose hope.

I wouldn't complain much about the lack of job, since we clearly are not the only country with that problem. Even some parts of the US are having some crisis there.

Yes, but in many cases we incentivize unemployment in the US...

Consequences of joblessness are probably more harsh down there?

Nope, I'm not proud to be an American. Here in Florida things have been better, but when I used to live up north, everyone was a sh*thead and a dick not to mention racist as f*ck.
I didn't chose to live here. The politicians in this country are clowns, making decisions like they're playing a board game, trying their hardest to f*ck the planet up with another war.
You can't trust the police here to not abuse their power. The typical response you get from anyone in charge here is "Oh we're sorry you feel that way, but we're not going to change that". Death is treated like nothing here, everyone forgets who died after a month or so. Everything here is about money and saving money. There's probably more that I'm forgetting, but that's it for now.
I'm planning on moving to Colombia, Brazil, or something similar the soonest I can.

Hey, I'd take risking getting my head chainsawed off by some coke cartel. over sh*tty weather any day of the week pal.

Would you be up for trading places? If it would make you feel more at home, there's a gaunt looking, homeless mariachi who hangs around my local high street. He's certainly cheaper to hire than you're typical restaurant quartet

The media here likes to portray us as victims, so yeah, I do tend to generalize, mea culpa. There are some (a lot I'd say, but you'd disagree with me) neo-nazis who don't want us in the west, and you can't deny that.

LE: you're a smartass, aren't you? All I know is that those gypsies you probably see in your country aren't a real representation of us Romanians. You can say what you want, I'm not a gypsy, I don't look like one...in fact, most Romanians hate their guts for what they're doing to our country's image abroad. We're poor (upper-middle income, though, but when compared to you lucky pricks, we are), but we're not thieves.

So all Romanian Gypsies are scum and no white Romanians are? WASTEMAN.

Never said that. It's just that "white" Romanians (we don't really consider gypsies to be Romanians over here though) tend to be more civilized. There are a lot of people here who want those gypsies who go abroad and steal sh*t to be stripped of their citizenship...I still don't see why the Romanian government has to pay for all the damage done by these...people. Call me a racist, I'm just patriotic. And you're ignorant, we're just as "white" as any other European nation. The gypsies are a minority.

Since when did I say that Romania is a gypsy majority country? And why aren't people born in Romania considered to be Romanians? Only thing I can think of is racism. Perhaps your citizenship should be stripped for giving the impression that Romania is a heavily racist country?

No, dude, that's just my opinion. Our prime minister is a Socialist currently and he'd never agree with me. But the fact that those gypsies are able to go abroad whenever they want, and they start stealing, raping, killing kinda makes us hate them...it's understandable, don't you think? And it's gotten worse since we've entered the EU. They used to steal sh*t from us Romanians, and now they're stealing your sh*t, and we can't do anything to stop them. I'm not a racist in the slightest, I'm just worried about my country's (already ruined) reputation.

Get over yourself, you pr*ck. You can't play the victim card then start spewing racism yourself. You say it's terrible that you receive racism because you're Romanian, then start calling Gypsies uncivilized thieves.
Maybe it's the fact that you're country doesn't consider it's own citizens welcome there that they tend to live in poverty (or uncivilized, as you'd put it) which leads to crime etc. And what about ethnic Romanians who go stealing and killing abroad, are they just the victims of European racism?

No, they are thieves and they deserve to be punished for their actions. It's just that I have many friends who have left Romania to go to the west, and they're all productive members of society. I know for a fact I'd never steal anything from any westerner, the only reason I'd ever wanna go to the west would be to visit London, Paris, Madrid etc. 90% of the Romanian citizens who commit crimes abroad are gypsies, and there are right-wing parties with seats in the Parliament that have asked the government to strip them of their citizenship, as I've said. Not all gypsies, just the ones who commit crimes. Our centre-left PM always refuses, though, and it's likely that he'll lose the next election.

Our government has invested billions of euros into assmilation programs, to no avail. Most of them don't even have IDs, so they can't be counted in the census. There are estimates that say the real Romanian population is around 24 million people, and I don't doubt that.

I identify with the culture of my country and the language, but I find pride more fitting for things that I've chosen to do myself, and since I don't choose what country I'm born in and what languge I learn, I'm not proud of it. And I think nationalism is not a useful sentiment and the cause of a lot of bad things.

I pretty much agree with this.

Reasonably so as my country has been historically progressive, for example the first country to give women the vote and being nuclear free.
But I dislike current policies like the Free Trade Agreement with China, involvement in the Trans Pacific Partnership, not renewing the Kyoto Protocol and an over reliance on the dairy industry.

*shrug* It's hard to say. I love our culture. From our music to our food, and our carefree nature (and the fact that we kick all the asses in track and field). At the same time, I can't stand how backwards a large portion of us are. The amount of rampant homophobia going on in Jamaica just sickens me. That and the fact that although JA is well known for being "laid back", we resort to violence faster than you can say salsa verde. I'm proud to be a Jamaican, but not proud of the country as a whole.

I assumed most of the guys on here who displayed a Jamaican flag were just trying to get a "420" message across. Guess I was wrong after all, there ARE real Jamaicans on here. Refreshing.

I really don't know, I guess I kinda am since it's my country, and I'll always be loyal to it, but you have to be really stupid these days not to notice all the mistakes our government makes. Like, I seriously don't think it's a coincidence we only go to war against Middle Eastern, oil rich countries...Bush started that trend. And don't even get me started on some of the hillbillies and rednecks rolleyes.gif
