Mental age 18>physical age 16. There is nudity that no place for a 12 year old. On the other hand they might spend more time in strip clubs while the adults explore the game and hunt each other.

So? What do we discuss?

I live in my father's ball sack, sometimes it's cold, sometimes I become the victim of a seminal fluid flood, sometimes my mother tries to lick me off, my father tries to cut off all the trees and leave me with no shelter, I sometimes see some dirt-ball animals, I wish I had a trainer who thought me how to survive in this environment. There is no water. So I quench my thirst from my mother's saliva and my father's semen. It's really not such a good place to live. But I like the smell, it smells like the armpit of a lynx. I've made a few friends here. I wish I could just reach that top of the mountain, but the thing is, it occasionally erupts, and the worst thing about that is, is that I don't know when it's going to erupt.

Well lets be honest.. how old were most members on this forum when they played their first GTA?

Saying it should be 18+ only is unrealistic, i believe supervised anyone from 12 years or older should be able to play it. Heck the story contains the most inappropriate stuff i know enough fathers that let their sons just fool around in singleplayer freeroam and do some races, police missions or just cruise around. (but that only works if the parent in question has an interest in games or GTA in particular)

16+ Should be old enough full stop..

I mean i'm 26.. first GTA i played was 14 years ago..

One year in prison for possessing an M rated game?

I think it would be time to leave the United States.

It's hard not to be a hypocrite since I played pretty much all the GTA's when they came out, being 10 when the original first was released. And I used to play DOOM before that, and I never once got violent or failed to distinguish game from reality.

It all depends, really. Any "normal", non-violent child/pre-teen COULD probably handle it just fine, but I understand the 18+ rating as it makes the parents judge if they can handle it or not. There will always be the kids who might get the wrong ideas from games. I'm not saying they will go out and fetch a hooker, steal cars or shoot people... but I actually had a friend when I was young who thought it would be awesome to build a flamethrower after seeing one in a movie.

If I ever have kids and they act like normal, non-violent or aggressive children I would let them play violent games if they wanted to.

I played GTA at the age of 6, I'm now 14, all I do is swear like a lot of people, I didnt learn from GTA at all. Regarding the nudity if there is a cutscene in game for that then just turn the tv off and wait.

This. It's not like when you have your 18th birthday and you wake up you're like "oh snap, now I know the difference between fiction and reality, GTA here i cum"

If you think you're mature enough, play it.

Children playing the game wouldn't be a big deal if it was still 2004 and there was no online experience for them to ruin.

Now we have to hear them arguing with their single crack whore mother while Kidz Bop is playing in the background.

My first games were Mortal Kombat and Doom at a very early age. I never picked up a gun and shot Gram Gram in the face. My little brother first started playing Halo and GTA San Andreas when he was about 4? He's 16 now and more mature at that age than the rest of us were. Like said above, its just a guideline and shouldnt be taken as law. I think children under 16 should be supervised and see how they react to the material. But at the end of the day, is GTA V any worse than the garbage kids are exposed on any TV station these days?

See this is the thing...some parts of gta as you pointed out can be totally 'innocent' like an old school straight forward race but the fact is that the parents you're talking about are the gamers themselves. Most underage people don't have parents like that and will get the game and sit with it from beginning to end on their own. And I agree...the storyline is the worst. That's my issue too. Therefore a 11,12,13,14 year old...is way to young in my opinion. Moreover the games are getting more realistic in terms of graphics and are less cartoony looking than back in the day so those comparisons like ''well I played III and Vice City when I was 10'' blah blah...is nonsensical. A 13 year old playing GTA V is going to see a lot worse than we did playing the earlier versions of the series. The only thing I see hypocritical is people pretending like violent media is completely innocent just because we enjoy playing it. Lets not pretend it's great for a civil society because it's not. The fact that everyone keeps putting the tired cliche simpleton argument of ''oh well as long as you know the difference between real and fake'' in says everything. It's deeper than that you just don't want to think about it because you don't want to acknowledge you think something that could be damaging to a child's development is fine for a child. BE REAL.

18 in an ideal world, but for anyone under that age it's the parents sole responsibility to either allow or not allow their kids to play it.

But people struggle these days to have any basic parent skills and normally let their kid do what they want.

The media always blames games (such as GTA) for crime, but really it's the upbringing and parenting that is to be of blame.

first i want to say that i lol'ed so hard at some posts in this topic lol.gif
second, i would say that the appropriate age would be 14-15 years old and above when you have matured a bit, enough for you to realise that you must not do what you see in videogames....of course, some understand that at the age of 8-9 or 10 years old...but 14-15 is to be sure

I think if someone already masturbates and cums, that someone could deal easily with GTA V content.
