Ok, so I have a launch day 360 that had the RRoD 4.5 years ago (still got MSoft to fix it due to being military, it's got some perks I guess).

With the Launch of GTAV I have to at the least get a large thumb drive (20 GB HDD is pretty full).

But I was thinking of getting a brand new system as the PS3 bundle looks pretty good, but how is it so much cheaper than the Xbox 360?

Price wise the PS3 w/500 GB HDD is about the same as the 4 GB Xbox Slim, but the PS3 has a blu-ray player and a 500 GB HDD, how is this possible? Are there things the PS3 gives up that I am not factoring in?

Personally I am not a huge fan of the PS controller, but other than that it seems like a solid buy. Plus the free online is nice, I won't have time to make use of a paid subscription like Xbox has.

Thanks.

And if we could stay away from the unexplained Xbox sucks/PS3 sucks comments, this is about facts, not fanboyism.

Wut? What are you smoking?

PS3 500GB costs - 209 where as 4GB 360 costs 130.

360 is cheaper lol

Sorry I left off the important stuff.

You can get a 500 GB PS3 w/GTAV for $270 (so $210 w/$60 game).

A 4 GB Xbox 360 is $200, and a 250 GB is $300.

So as close as you can match the systems (500 vs 250 GB) the PS3 comes out $90 cheaper and has double the HDD space and a blu-ray player.

It's because Sony made a price drop just yesterday. If you were looking at prices last week, 360 would be cheaper.

And it depends on the retailer too.

with the risk of sounding like a xbox fanboy, it's cheaper because it's not as good as the 360!

They are still a lot more prone to failure than PS3's.

Actually, it's because people believe this that this occurs.

Supply and demand, more people want a 360 (god knows why), so they can get away with charging more for it.

Considering the ps3 has sold more units than the xbox every single week for the last two years, that's simply not true. The ps3 also has more overall sales.

Yeah.. but the total sales are not more than 0,1% apart in total amount of consoles sold. Which i might add only has been in favor of the PS3 for about a few months (I imagine it has to do with the disappointing XB1). The Xbox used to top the chars by (again) a small percentage)

If you live in the US Xbox outnumbers the PS3 2 to 1.

And the further you go East the more PS units sold.

I believe the xbox is more expensive because microsoft is greedy and grabs any proffit they can have, unlike Sony they see their 360 line as practically dead and a nice income which they need to milk till the XB1 releases. Not to mention MS has gone full retard on the whole marketing bit as of late. (Windows 8 / XB1) They really are making weird moves and seem to be disconnected with their fan/user base.

Not a fanboy or even a console gamer (Just exclusives PC otherwise).. but if you use stats atleast make them worth mentioning.

Nope, not the last few months, the last few years, I have followed week to week charts and PS3 has been ahead for a long time, the only times Xbox sold more week to week was at Christmas.
You are right about the 2:1 ratio though, 24 million PS3's, 40million Xboxes.

Here;s a source, feel free to back through every week and you'll see.

Same source i used, Again insignificant stats, we're talking 0,x % percentages most of the time, with the total still being more or less equal.. dozingoff.gif

Not enough to create this huge gap in supply and demand that would cause a price difference, it comes down to marketing and the vision on the future by the two companies, in which sony and MS differ quite a bit.
