Vice City
San Andreas.

The two 3D GTA games set in the past, should they set any subsequent GTA games in the past or are things like in game GPS and mobiles just too useful?

I'd love more of them to take place in the past.
Not having GPS or phones shouldn't be a reason not to have older settings.

I wouldn't mind it. Smartphones can probably be replaced by something equally cool or innovative.

This.

I was thinking that if they ever set GTA in the past again it'd have to work through a system of phone boxes, old mobile phones etc.

Say, for example, GTA VI was set in 1985 in Vice City, instead of the modern mobile phone to contact mission givers, friends etc. a system consisting of having to use phone boxes scattered through town to contact them or something along those lines.

I for one, would f*cking love to go back to the 80s in GTA again.

Only Vice City 80s again would be good idea. But GTA present times is better.

Why they havn't made a GTA set in the thirdies or forties is beyound me. L.A noire and Mafia will have to do it for me for now.

That would be be a lil boring i guess, not london itself but big cities with no countryside in general.
Give me sunny locations like vice city for example. Or 3 different cities like SA. Aaaaaaand i like modern day more then the past.

I'm kinda happy with the modern GTA games. I wouldn't mind going back to the 80's and 90's again. What could they do?

Yeah sure. I still consider Vice City as the 'coolest' video game ever made. cool.gif

And in a way, some decades of the past have been more vibrant and interesting than these days...

Hell yes.

If want to experience the present, I can go look outside. However, if I want to experience a bygone era, R* can deliver, whether it be the Western or 80s Miami or 90s LA, which is why I would love a game set in the past like like the 70s or something.

Yeah I would love to see another GTA set in the past.
I would like it in London and based around the The Kray twins or set in the 70's or 80's and have it based around the rise of the foot soldier (if anyone has seen it) I think it would be good, from football hooligan to gangster.

Sure, why not? In fact, I think I'd like to see one set in every decade from the 50s to now. A futuristic one might be interesting too (hovercrafts and all that), but I don't think GTA would want to bind themselves to the fate they establish for all the recurring characters.

I thought maybe one set in the old west would be neat at first, but I don't know how they could make the gameplay like the others. It would have to focus a lot on the protagonist or someone he works with inventing stuff or it would get boring fast.

Yeah you're right because there is nothing this board needs more than another "WHAT R U DOING TO PASS THE TIME TIL GTA V!!!1!" thread.
