I was at one point going to get the ACIII DLC but then I played through the game and said to myself "f*ck Ubisoft". ACIII was the first in the series I got on release (got it during Target's Buy Two, Get One free sale) and it'll be the last as it's back to being a bargain bin buy at best for me as ACII and its sequels were.

Anyway instead of using some third rate site like that you could have gone and found either this better source.

http://www.shacknews...c-in-the-future

Or the original source of the quotes.

http://www.gamasutra...tar_does_it.php

Should have added this in my first post.

Are you disappointed that Dan Houser confirmed that GTA V will not be getting any episodic content like GTA IV got? We won't be seeing any vehicle packs, weapon packs, more cities such as San Fierro and Las Venturas, and I think worst of all.. no zombies!

you do realize the difference between episodic content and just DLCs right? he meant that R* would ONLY make small DLCS

My understanding is Rockstar like doing the episodic content, but doing them doesn't stack up financially. Also they take too long to produce and release after the main game. So the majority of players have moved on to other titles once they finish the main GTA and don't return for the DLCs.

So instead Rockstar want small DLC packs that they can sell shortly after the game is released to capitalize on users' hype and enthusiasm while they are still playing the game.

So large DLCs such as additional playing area or stories are out. Small DLCs such as weapon packs, vehicle packs, clothes etc are in. If I had to speculate on the largest DLCs we might see, we might possibly get additional heists which would fit within the theme of the game.

Maybe they could do a Las Venturas add-on with two new protagonists instead of three.

Adding an other City as DLC is definitely out the question. The DLC would be literally so expensive to make that it could be sold at the same price as the main game.

i think there's still a chance for some decent DLC. when i hear no episodic DLC, it just makes me think it wont be like IV, with a new character and story (possibly due to already having 3 character) and that they may still release content for micheal, trevor, and franklin, which IMO would be better. GTA IV's DLC is the only DLC i've heard refered to as episodic as well, they could release an expansion instead similiar to the size on RDR undead nightmare

They spent 5 years creating Los Santos, and you think Las Venturas would be DLC?

This is definitely a no go. There will be no new locations as a DLC. For a new city they'll make a whole new game, so we'd be talking GTA:VI in about four or five years time.

DLCs for GTA:V will be vehicle/clothing/weapon packs. At a push, possibly additional heists; but even that might be a bit much.

I always thought people were being sarcastic when they said they wanted zombie dlc.

Sad we won't get a Las Venturas add on, that would be prime location for heists (and also to act out some scenes from Casino)

Zombie dlc was just an idea people had because of RDR undead nightmare and I'm happy I won't blow money on addons to get the full game COD pissed me off but I'm gutted the SA has been reduced in cities.

Im cool with that, prefering complete games anyway. Still, there will be some smaller DLCs like for MP3 and RDR exept Undaead nightmare. Maybe new Heist and few new cars and some MP stuff. EFLC was great but they spent 2 years on that so we get GTA V afer 5 years. This time i hope all DLCs will be over in 6 months after release(probably in time for PC version) and production of GTA VI can start.

I like DLC as long as it's reasonable priced, more content sad.gif

Most people don't understand how DLC works, as the game is finalized the artists are put to work on more content during a duration they would either be laid off or moved onto other projects. This way they can create more content for the same game.

Undead Nightmare is a "small" compared to the episodes, cost much less to produce, sold for less and was released much faster than the first GTA IV episode did. Plus it wasn't restricted to one console where a large portion of the user base couldn't even play it due to their lack of a HDD.

Never heard of this site and they're recycling ancient news what Houser was talking about was DLC like the episodes, that's it. The episodes were so expensive that Rockstar lost money (well, money that was loaned to Take-Two by Microsoft) on them when they were released on the XB360 and they probably didn't make much if anything off them when they arrived on the PS3. He talked about smaller DLC but that didn't mean cars packs and little nickle and dime crap. He meant DLC that they wouldn't have to invest a lot of money into like they had for TLAD and TBoGT.

I still think DLC will be similar to the route taken with RDR and there'll be some free DLC, a few multi-player additions and at least one single player story DLC similar in size/length to Undead Nightmare which was cheaper and easier to produce than GTA IV's episodes and did extremely well. Hopefully it won't involve zombies...

I read that Microsoft paid between 50 and 75 million just for exclusivity rights...That would cover development at least. Then comes sales and eventual sales on both systems when the exclusivity period ran out. I see it as pretty unlikely they didn't make money on it, I would say losing money on the episodes project was next to impossible.

That's not to say that they may not favour the strategy or that it may not be the most productive for them in terms of maximising profits. I just seriously doubt they lost money.

They didn't lose any money. They just didn't get what they expected. They see how COD makes all their money from MP maps. So they're deciding to take the cheap route and going with MP and small add ons for Single Player.

Yeah, it was 50 million however Microsoft didn't straight up give Rockstar $50M for it, it was a loan/advance to Take-Two (which was struggling and its stock basically in the toilet when the deal was made) that was given in exchange for I guess basically timed exclusivity as it turned out, it largely covered the cost of producing the content. MS got at least some of its money back from their XBL cut of sales which IIRC is 30%, but it was expected to sell a lot better than it did. It didn't help that the general consumer is pretty ignorant and didn't get that it was downloadable content and a lot of those people couldn't download it anyway because they bought the "Arcade" version of the console. It also didn't help that the first episode came out almost 10 months after IV's release, way too late to ride IV's momentum. Seeing how they were disappointed with sales, Rockstar/Rockstar North likely got very little money back out of it as first revenue goes through Take-Two then to Rockstar and with how poorly it performed T2 might have had to pay some of that 50M back.

Again Houser was likely referring to "small" as in comparison to the episodes not an indication that they're going to nickle and dime route with GTA V. If they can put out another 5-10 hour additional story like with RDR for $10 in a reasonable amount of time it's going to do very well, better than Undead Nightmare which also sold very well, especially with how many PS3s and XB360s with storage that are out now.

Definitely not the entire city, but Las Vegas casinos are huuuuuge on the inside. It could be possible that they're going to add new heists as DLC, and it would be cool to see one taking place entirely within a casino.

They will change their minds, despite what you may read on these forums, majority of people want (or will buy) any episodes put out. Look at EFLC... people here constantly b*tch about DLC, but how many of them HAVEN'T played Episodes?

If they don't do any episodes for V, then I think they're planning on releasing another game sooner rather than later.

Either way, I'm happy. colgate.gif

This. DLC will be smaller, more like RDR and MP3, instead of just a couple of large DLC like TLAD and TBoGT. I say GOOD. I much prefer smaller packs, of which I will be buying all, sight unseen.

This. If GTA V is the San Andreas of it's generation and GTA IV the III, then Episodes was Vice City. Even though I enjoyed them, I'd rather have a whole new game than another Episodes.

It's confirmed that there is no episodic content for the game, but DLCs in general are not ruled out. In fact, Strauss Zelnick teased on the conference call in late October last year that there are add-ons. However, no specific details were revealed. GTA EfLC consisted of two add-ons of a large scale; it took quite some time to develope them, and they were with $20 relatively expensive, but certainly worth the money considering their size. But it was commercially not a success, unfortunately. First, Take-Two would have made an announcement if it would have been very profitable for them. And second, Dan Houser wouldn't have said "perhaps, DLCs for $10 are better than DLCs for $20" (re-worded, but that's what he basically said). Just to clarify: TLaD and TBoGT were two expensive projects and Microsoft paid over 50 million dollars for its timed exclusity. Imagine how much it would cost to create an entire city of a large scale (and not being a platform-exclusive, et cetera). I remember there was a statistic that stated that 50% of the customers who purchase a title are going to buy additional content in the best case, which happens very rarely. Don't you think it would be way to risky to create an entire city, and sell it as DLC?

That was a long time ago, might have even been before GTA V was announced. But it was in an interview with Dan Houser. I'm sure it's been linked several times in this thread.

I am glad - It's going to be one big complete game just like San Andreas was icon14.gif

With the Gta 4 DLC, I felt this should have been part of the package at the beginning ,I am happy i haven't got to be worrying about DLC and freeing more roam on my overloaded Hard-Drive

Plus Next gen consoles are here so Rockstar can focus on more great games colgate.gif

With no big DLC's it clearly feels a bigger map a huge world loaded as never seen in any gta to date leaving no need for any episodic content. In fact 3 protags already hint the complete satisfaction for players to enjoy in GTA V
I am so glad that R* really cuts on DLC and takes a different route on giving extra contents
that won't hurt players pockets.

With this news R* has clearly respected us on every wish we had dreamed of having A GTA of our choice
