In GTA V, the in-game phone is the IFruit, based on the IPhone. The map could actually be the phone's screen on a map application.
Maybe the map is physically the phone, as in the phone window pops out of the map.

You never know it sounds good on paper like instead of a phone popping up on the screen the map will change to a phone menu?

No. On others GTAs the phone screen were not circular smile.gif
It's just different, that's it. There's no secret in it.

that's a pretty good idea actually. bring up phone, map switches to phone menu and pops up a bit to reveal a keypad

also, maybe every 8-10 months of game time we will spend $$$$ to upgrade to a slightly newer version of the minimap lol

@Omar777i: That's exactly what I thought.

@Jehud: On other GTAs, it wasn't a smartphone.

@Jehud Actually it is kinda a secret, seeing as nobody has played the actual game yet. I think that's a cool idea! It would make sense to me.

It's an awesome idea saves space on the screen too!

It's just supposed to look like a sat nav.
We already know this.

This topic is more about if the map is physically the phone or not. I think I should update the OP.

Could be, although as far as I can recall GTA Vo'clock seen the phone in action during their preview. I think they would of mentioned it. Maybe send them a tweet?

It's not just different, it's more functional. The round radar was an archaic metaphor for analog CRT radar screens. The new display actually gets into your brain faster. It has a similar aspect ratio as your screen and shows the map at a similar perspective to your view. That lets you think faster because you don't have to conceptualize a top-down map view. The information is better integrated with your perception.

My only beef with it is the translucency, which is anti-functional, and I wouldn't be surprised if that gets patched out after more testing.

No problem. When someone on the forum actually has a good idea, they deserve praise. It's rare. tounge.gif

It's supposed to resemble the screen of a GPS device. Those also have rectangular screens...
