There's no love to be found on the deep web. I could tell you some stories of it if you want, some time.

Looking forward to them

QUOTE (lucid121 @ Thursday, Aug 8 2013, 19:21) My moms going to get internet connection soon(I am using a phone), probably on payday. I can't wait to try this deep web. Judging from the youtube links, it sounds very intresting. Btw sorry for being off topic, but why does opera mini say that I live in Europe, althouh I don't and I also have a different ip address.
I bet you can't wait to get on Hard Candy.

Meh, you are only going to find gore, snuff and tons of CP and of course, CP+Snuff.

There are also interesting things, like manuals to build explosives, guns, books, blueprints, etc.

I'm taking online computer courses for a class period in the school computer lab. A couple days ago my friend, who's in the exact same class, looked over at my screen when it was going over the deepweb and said:

friend: What's the deepweb?

zoo: Oh, things that can't be found through search engines, stuf like-

friend: Is it, like, illegal or something

zoo: Could be, but it's mostly just stuff like library datatbases, and company intranets.

friend: Have you ever been there.

zoo: No... :bored:

I really wish you guys would stop calling .onion sites the deepweb, you're inspiring people to do the same bullsh*t in real life. You could call it tornet, or the dark side of the internet, or anything but deepweb.

There are also interesting things, like manuals to build explosives, guns, books, blueprints, etc.

Just like the regular old surface internet! None of those (I don't know about blueprints, but schematics are easy) are all that hard to find without even knowing where to look.

Maybe the article was old but freedom hosting has been hacked before. The owner was arrested almost a month ago and its been hacked before.

This is stupid. It's like asking "do people sometimes do things that they are not allowed to do when they feel unwatched?".

The answer is yes, they do. And the internet is more than just Google and Facebook. Those are just part of the www, which itself is a part of the internet, but there is much more, like IRC, Usenet, Tor, Freenet, ...

We need open platforms like these though, that allow users a greater degree of anonymity - as we've again seen recently not complete anonymity and not against an "adversary" such as the NSA or GCHQ but just so people can have one damn place left in this f*cked up fully surveilled world of ours were they don't have to feel like big brother is reading all of their messages.

It wasn't hacked per se, but the implementation of Firefox 17 used in the Tor browser was compromised using a zero-day attack and assocaited malware, effectively revealing the static IP addresses of a number of suspected criminals including the owner of Freedom Hosting whom was the primary target due to his hosting network's association with distributing illegal content. Read of that what you will.

The deep web sounds interesting to check out. And it doesn't seem too hard to get onto maybe I will check it out one of these days. But I am afraid of government agencies somehow tracking me down so maybe that's why I just keep putting it off.

The deep web is mostly just uninteresting stuff that can't be accessed through regular searches. Stuff that was never indexed for some reason such as company and school intranets. The only stuff that is really illegal is the stuff that has a .onion domain and can only be accessed through Tor. Even then the software is often used by political agitators and people who just wish to remain anonymous, rather than people who are doing anything illegal per se. Tormail is certainly a useful tool for journalists who don't want their sources to be discovered -- wikileaks was originally only available through Tor and Freenet for example.

And on the subject of child porn on the deep web, it's not exactly hard to stay away from it -- because the Tor browser grants almost complete anonymity the boards are well-signposted with names like 4pedo etc. It's not like The Hidden Wiki just immediately spews out links to illegal content, you do have to actively seek out child porn, hitmen, hackers and viruses.

As for all of the snuff stuff, that's pretty much available anywhere on the internet.

I read somewhere that 90% of all .onion traffic goes to TSR, so make of that what you will...

Didn't feel like making a topic or anything; so I'll post here.  The US government raided and shut down The Silk Road today.  Kinda a big deal in the way of news.  The owner has been arrested as well.

What's with the pictures when you search "deep web" on tumblr? Are these actually supposed to be images found in parts of the web itself or just superstitious teens believing that stuff like this is actually what resides on there?

So, should I check the deepweb out? If so, how should I do it and what should the precautions be?

I think I went to a deep web site once. After clicking through numerous webpage redirects that first started on 4chan, I ended on a page showing a gif of some dude sh*tting on a little kid. I promptly clicked out of the screen and took a shower.

What the f*ck? What drives these people to do such things? What the actual f*ck drives them?
