I don't think no one wants to nuke the planet.

So you think everyone wants to nuke the planet?

Err oops. I meant I'm sure no one wants to nuke the planet.

A world war in the traditional sense, or should I say, similar to the two we've already fought through conventional means, against other major global powers, seems unlikely in my opinion. Nuclear deterrents are a very big reason. MAD, or mutually assured destruction, is a main reason we wont see a nuclear war IMO. The current state of warfare right now is mostly asymmetrical.

There'll be another Cold War (between USA & China) but WWIII? Nah, unless the entire Middle East and the surrounding parts become a battlefield then the media will spread the WWIII idea, though the death poll wouldn't even reach a 1/5 of that of WWII

Or perhaps Russia invades all the former USSR nations and creates the USSR again, leading to another Cold War between the USA & Russia, but that's me being crazy

I think there will be. It'll be severe. But I don't think it'll be one war. There will most likely be several. All of which will bring the world to its knees and people will be begging for peace - thus ushering in the antichrist.

And we think WWII was bad..

Those who believe that there won't be another WW because of those in charge, leading countries, will be thinking about us and our planet, are laughable.

Whereas those who dismiss the views of others in such an off-hand way with no justification or explanation are what exactly?

It's technically correct that they can't actually blow it to pieces but they could certainly make the majority of it uninhabitable.

Nuke power of 60's couldn't destroy whole the planet but Nuclear Science has came 54 years advance since then, and now I bet it could destroy life on the earth.

EDIT: I have built some apartments on Mars, near my house. You could get one for 20000$/Month.

Depends when in the 60s you mean. The total yield of nuclear warheads on earth was highest circa 1968 when both the US and Soviet Union had invested huge amounts in production of ICBMs but still lacked the guidance systems required to make nuclear weapons properly tactically valuable. So basically they just built really large (15MT+) warheads instead of multiple sub-megaton MIRVs like modern missiles use, to compensate for the lack of accuracy. Back then the primary targets for ICBMs were generally within blast proximity urban areas; these days not so much. I'm not even sure that a single modern armed force has a two megaton-plus warhead still in their arsenal. Closest I can't think is the B83 at 1.2MT

Nah I don't think so even though there's war already going on in Iraq, Gaza, Ukraine, etc. If 37 Americans were killed on the MH17 flight America would be throwing sh*t at Russia be now.

The only thing that complicates things is Nuclear Weapons. IF there were no Nuclear bombs then WWIII would have already occurred sometime in the 1960s but because of the Nuclear deterrent it never happened.

As of right now. I don't think so and it is highly unlikely. I do pray that there is not another world war in the near future.

I don't think there's much of a difference between a world war and the current global situation.
