Do you think there will ever be World War III in human history or not?

I think there will, but of course not in this age. Maybe the Muslims will attack the Christians, North Corea will attack America and/or Europe or the aliens will attack Earth.

I don't think there'll be another World War, I think we're going to start with the First Intergalactic War next.

There will be another World War, it'll probably start from a proxy war in the Middle East and grow from there. I'll be in Canada to escape the draft by that point.

Look at the situation in the world, there will be major war once. Only reason that there wasn't wars between superpowers since 1945 is nuclear weapon and certain nuclear distruction. But who knows when someones gone mad and decide this or that thing is worth the risk, especially when resource deplete.

More or less, it'd be America. America needs to keep it's nose out of other countries.

This. America think they're the world police.

I think another world war is inevitable, it's in our genes. Humans are actually quite a disgusting species, just look at our history. Don't get me wrong i'm not saying everybody is the same, because that's certainly not the case, it just takes a few individuals. Then again, would it really be a 'war' considering most countries are sitting on WMDs. Before you know it they'd be mushroom clouds all over the place there's nobody left to fight.

Hatred and greed has caused all these devastating wars, so it's inevitable that the cycle of world warfare will repeat itself. Humanity itself has not learned from our the past pains.

As it stands now, no. The world is too interconnected for there to be a World War III.

Very, very unlikely but I wouldn't deny it's possibility in the longrun. Here's how I see it. I believe that currently there just isn't a rival power block that could challenge the US (and its system of allies ofcourse) on a global scale. And even if one develops there's still nuclear weapons - because we've been there before, and it was called the Cold War. Any serious war between superpowers would involve nukes, so until nations develop what they believe are reasonable counters to nuclear annihilation, the odds of a f*ckin world war are very low.

No, the human race is far too interconnected and developed at this point to warrant a war on a global scale, then there's the fact that the risk simply isn't worth the reward anymore, chancing a nuclear apocalypse for money or land simply isn't worth it. Then there'd also need to be a reason for this global conflict to arise and I simply can't see any plausible reason for it.

Highly unlikely. I don't think we're stupid enough to launch nuclear missiles at each other. Plus, there's no point to it anymore.

Who knows, but I certainly wouldn't discard the possibility, look at the British, they are getting crazier and paranoid every day, banning p*rn (see censure right there), surveillance cameras everywhere. It wont be us (germany) this time around, we want to be like like switzeland, neutral, and seize all your money.

You all can blow your asses sky high, we just want or p*rn, beer and lame jokes.

We're not getting paranoid at all, actually.
The porn ban is merely an attempt by Cameron to prove his right wing credentials to a party who wants him to behave more like that wretched demagogue Nigel Farage. It's a ploy, a stunt to keep the sheep herded.
It cannot have escaped his attention how oversexed people in this country are or that we are so obsessed with smut that people freely discuss oral sex on daytime TV. Any ban on pornography is purely motivated by internal party jostling, not a widespread desire to return to the dark days of the Cromwellian Commonwealth.

The prospect of a third World War is remote. The reasons are simple:

- Widespread anti-war sentiment. You will no longer see crowds cheering the outbreak of hostilities as you did in 1914.
- Blurring of gender roles. War is still seen as a masculine pursuit, but Westernised men are increasingly metrosexual and not conforming to typical male glorifications of violence.
- The internet. The internet has given everyone a face and a voice. Whilst propaganda can still be used to cast one group or people as savages, it is harder to demonise an entire race when a single man with a phone can become a journalist and expose injustice and deceit.
- Discredited right wing values mean that the xenophobia needed for imperialistic conquest is not as present in as many social circles as it was in the previous two conflicts. More people challenge authority and are cynical about their elected officials.

The world has changed enough so that the circumstances that led to the rise of Hitler probably will not occur again. It has also changed to the point that people are not naive enough to enlist en masse as they did when the First World War broke out. We are too cynical, too international and too undisciplined.

However, the extremist ideologies are spreding in the occidenal countries; nationalism, xenofobic and extreme right parties seems to have more impact in these times of economial crisis. And, at the same time, the religious fundamentalism is propagating in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Probably not within this century, but I'd certainly consider a World War over natural resources possible in the next. Our reliance upon fossil fuels continues to grow despite fossil fuel supplies diminishing rapidly. Eventually reserves are going to run dry, then what? There is only so much fresh water in the world and it is slowly starting to become more scarce. As most people know, fresh water is a necessity for life, so what happens when there isn't any or enough fresh water to sustain our rapidly growing population?

I believe that it is very well possible. If there was a WW3, I think it would be caused by something stupid that the US will do. In the event that there was one, I don't want there to loss of life on a grand scale, which in a world war would probably be inevitable. I do, however think wish that the US would learn a " lesson " in the process. To me it seems that the US wants to create a world peace by being a world police force, but I don't think that is the way for it to be done. I think that instead of showing military might, that they should try to add more territory and states to the Union through peaceful means. Start with those who want change, who are in deep poverty and oppression and show them the rights that they could have if they were to join the union. Eliminate all these silly borders that we allow to define who people are and what they believe in. They only breed ignorance and hate. Right now the US has a bad reputation for playing world police. The US seems to fail at practicing what they preach. War is only a easy, greedy, and costly way to get what you want. There are so many people fighting for land and territory on a planet which in comparison to the rest of the world is nothing more than a speck of dust. They fail to realize that if we were to work together rather that work separately and despise one another that we could accomplish great and unimaginable things. There are so many more resources that we can gather out in space than there are worth fighting over on this loathsome little planet of ours. We not as countries, but instead as a human race need to Unite for the betterment of humanity as a whole. There is much more prosperity to be gained through peace than there ever will be through the spoils wars. The radio, television, internet, trains, cars, and airplanes have brought us so much closer as humans, and yet we all stay so far apart. I believe, NO, I know that it is time for humanity to unite and rid ourselves of greed, selfishness, and anger. So, my fellow humans in the name of peace, we shall all unite! For a new world, a better world, where we can give youths a future and old age a security.

OT: Very unlikely, but there is still the possibility of it happening, with severe consequences. All I hope for is that if it does happen, either I'm not alive to see it, or my country stays the f**k out of it, which I very unlikely as I live in Britain, who will always back up America...

Not really, history can only repeat itself when it has the ability to do so and currently there simply isn't anything large enough going on to instigate a global conflict between many of the world's superpowers.

As for the people saying that we could potentially spark a third world world war over resources, I'd have to disagree. Regardless of how valuable the resource is, as weapon technology develops the less and less likely such a thing becomes, there comes a time where fighting over resources or land simply isn't worth the price you'll pay in return. Even if we do develop some sort of nuclear deterrent, it still won't stop them from being used and when nukes are thrown out the picture, worse things will follow.

The only sort of thing that I could see sparking a war of that scale is some sort of external force popping up. I'm talking about an army that represents no country or nation, only an idea or something along those lines, when the enemy has no home, when you have no direct way of striking back at them that's when the entire planet could potentially become your battlefield. A war between the Earth's biggest superpowers however simply isn't worth fighting regardless of what's on the line.
