It's Official! Peter Capaldi has been named as the 12th doctor, after weeks of rumours and speculation it's finally been revealed, he'll take over the role in the christmas special at the end of the year, personally I think he's great, he's a veteran actor and he looks the part too. Hopefully the show becomes alot more serious and dramatic.

Make him an American actor! The Brits stole Batman and Superman, I want the Doctor in exchange. tounge.gif

EDIT: I'm reading reports that there is going to be an announcement of some sort tonight at midnight GMT.

I'm looking forward to it, though I wasn't expecting them to announce it this early-ish.

I would actually start watching Dr. Who properly again if Capaldi is named as the new Doctor.

I can't wait!
The last time I saw Doctor Who before the finale was when the 11th Doctor first came in 2010 so some parts of the finale didn't make sense. ph34r.gif

For some reason I'm thinking it's a woman.

I don't imagine there will be a woman Doctor until after the original regeneration cycle has been completed. Once so, I see it reasonable that they can twist the fiction however they please to carry the show onwards.

I'm not saying it has to be a man - in fact, I don't think it's ever been a rule - but 50 years of The Doctor being male has dictated the expectations somewhat. I see the end of the regeneration cycle - something that has been cemented as a future event for a long time - as a potential end point to 'tradition', and the best time for the change.

Well according to a photographer who goes by the name of Rankin, the new Doctor is male. Or at least suggested it; he tweeted that he photographed him, and mentioned that, "He's going to be an ace Dr."

Lightning Strike crosses his fingers and hopes it's Stephen Fry

As strange as that might sound the more I think about the more it seems that Stephen would make the perfect Doctor, he's charismatic, witty, intelligent and rather odd. No-one fits the role more than him in my opinion.

This is so f*cking fantastic. They couldn't have gone with a better choice. Loved him in The Thick of It.

Apparently he was already in a Doctor Who episode as Caecilius in The Fires of Pompeii.

That is a great choice; I didn't like Matt Smith as Doctor Who if I must be honest, there was just something about him that didn't give him that edge, I can definitely consider Peter Capaldi pulling this off though.

All of my friends wanted it to be someone else.
By the way, I thought it was supposed to be John Hurt?

He's the Forgotten Doctor, in-between the 8th and 9th Doctors. He will play a major role in the 50th anniversary special.

Matt Smith played a BRILLIANT Doctor. He channeled a lot of the characteristics from the second Doctor. And also nice hints of the Forth Doctor too. He had a youthful quirkiness which fitted his body. He made the Doctor as amazing as he is but was very crazy and did the character justice. Now Capaldi will make a fine addition to move the character forwards with a middle aged body for the Doctor. Which may bring a more grounded, dark Doctor.

Random fact, Capaldi is the same age as the first Doctor (Hartnell) when he began it all!

That is one of the major theory's, we won't be sure until the 50th. Some people think he is the Valeyard, but I think the first theory is better.

Anyway Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, I am not familiar with his work, and even when I was, we still don't know what kind of personality he will have. So I won't say anything untill I see him on screen.

That is priceless. Malcolm Tucker is seriously the best TV character since Del Boy is you ask me. And Peter Capaldi is flawless.

I can't wait to see this guy, I also don't know who he is.
