Never found one of these videos that did anything for me. I think the thing that really stops me getting into it is the mics they're using, the gain is so high up I can hear nothing but background hiss and the sound of their saliva smacking around in their mouth as they open and close it. Really quite off-putting :(

That's actually a trigger for some people; they're called mouth sounds. On normal mics, they have to put the gain up really high because they whisper. If they didn't, I don't think the mics would pick up their voice, or the sounds the person behind the mic make. Most ASMRtists that I watch use a 3Dio, the one with the silicone ears. Those don't pick up much background noise, but have amazing sound quality. I think that whoever made that microphone, created it mainly for the purpose of ASMR. Haha.

As someone who experiences ASMR, I can say that videos don't do anything for me. There are no thematic triggers, it's more just a moment of giving your attention to someone who seems to care about what they're doing and losing yourself in their control of the situation. It can happen at the barber shop, during a massage, or simply when someone's writing something down for me, but none of these are consistent initiators. Set and setting I suppose.

Although I have no direct experience with BDSM, I wonder if it has any neurological or psychological relation to subspace in BDSM because taking pleasure in another person's control seems to be a factor.

So, this is a thread devoted to guys jacking off to hypno porn, eh? Oh, sure, it starts out so innocently, but we all know where it ends.

Dirty pigs.

I've gotten into ASMR about roughly 2.7 years ago. It all began one night when I watching a couple medical videos out of sheer boredom, then a video by Th3HazySea appeared in my suggestions. It was an ASMR physical video (which has since been deleted by the user) and I was curious on what the hell "ASMR" meant. I thought it was a medical term in use for doctoral studies, but in actuality, its purpose put me to sleep by Rachel's (the real name of Th3HazySea) soothing voice.

I replayed the video time and again when I trouble sleeping. Then around the beginning of 2014, I began to explore "the ASMR community" and found interesting ASMR content creators that have voices and roleplays that soothe you, clears your mind, enter imagination and/or puts you to sleep. I discovered many "ASMRtists", with my now-favorites such as MassageASMR (DmitriASMR as I search it), Olivia's Kissper ASMR, Deluca ASMR, Tony Bomboni, HeatherFeather, Lauren Ostrowski Fenton and many more. Honestly, the rest of 2014 was a blast listening to these people after a rough and stressful day of school and work.

I don't watch the ASMR videos as much as I used to, but every once in a while if I feel like I need some relaxation when other conventional and customary methods are exhausted, then I'll pay a visit to either Dr. Dmitri, Evil Olivia, or Fitness Motivator Fenton.

Do these videos make anyone else really agitated?

I've watched a few of these to try and understand what other people are getting out of it, but it does nothing but agitate me, like when you have an itch that feels as though it's deep in your ear and you can't reach it..

Does tinnitus/hearing issues affect whether or not these videos do anything for you? Because I really don't understand how people can enjoy this so much.

I cant stand those videos where they wishper etc, it just makes me mad instead of feeling relaxed. I like the ones where they give a massage and crack their necks etc. I just like the sound of cracking bones, and the feeling ofcourse, i crack my bones all the time (neck, finger, toes and ankles).

I think its just a sexual thing. Some guys get aroused by it. Its why its mostly women doing this stuff and they try to look pretty and sh*t. Its like a milder version of hypno videos you find on porn sites.

Really?

I know it's become a fad recently, but I thought maybe there was a genuine, honest reason behind it. My mistake.

Deluca ASMR actually made a video concerning about this.

Also, a Reddit post concerning about how people get defensive of it being sexualized nowadays.

Yeah, I don't like the whispering or those kinds of noises.
