I'll make a quick list of probable improvements:
-More detailed worlds: Rockstar always keep the detailing-of-worlds aspect a priority. I'm pretty sure that GTAV - even though 'twill be detailed - isn't close to R*'s ideal world. They will go as far as possible with environmental details with next gen. I mean, look at Watch_Dogs
already. The game is insanely detailed in almost every aspect. It most likely is more detailed than the world of GTAV - thanks to it being smaller than GTAV and the probably half-harnessed power of next gen. Oh, and the Division
-Physics: With the advent of PS3 and the Xbox 360, Rockstar found enough power in these consoles to integrate Natural Motion's Euphoria
into their proprietary R.A.G.E engine. Till date, the integrated physics engine of their current-gen games are unparalleled in the console ecosystem ( as far as animations and ragdoll-ing are concerned ), at least in the open-world segment of games.
With the arrival of next-gen, they have a whopping 15x more RAM in the consoles to unleash the desired amount of detailing and dynamism in the physics department of their games. We've already seen stimulated win and water in Watch_Dogs
and what we've seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg.
-AI: GTA AI's - although most including me find them to be amusing - is pretty subpar. They improved the AI considerably with Red Dead Redemption
and Max Payne 3
. I know that the latter is a corridor shooter, but still..
-To state the obvious, more features
. Developing for PS3 was initially a pain the rear according to even Rockstar
. Developers took a long time to get around it's architecture. But these new consoles have a more familiar x86 architecture and basically they're PC's. Developers will adapt to the new consoles much, much more quicker than they did with the PS3. According to the PS4 guys, one of their intentions was to make the console more developer friendly. So, expect no GTA IV
this time around.
-Bringing in all the cities/towns of the GTA
universe into one game. Hell, even Rockstar themselves have hinted at it!
