So after calculating the pre-orders from VGCharts.

Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V pre-orders on the Xbox 360: 380,481
Grand Theft Auto V pre-orders on the PS3: 336,123

Total: 716,604 pre-orders.

---------------

Call Of Duty: Ghosts

Call Of Duty: Ghosts pre-orders on the Xbox 360: 156,773
Call Of Duty: Ghosts pre-orders on the PS3: 90,825
Call Of Duty: Ghosts pre-orders on the PS4: 41,627
Call Of Duty: Ghosts pre-orders on the Xbox One: 34,741

Total: 323,966

---------------

Open World Ubisoft Games

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag pre-orders on the Xbox 360: 46,637
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag pre-orders on the PS3: 33,259
(I couldn't find the Next-Gen pre-orders, as they were off the top 40 spots, which is under 25,327 pre-orders)

Watch_Dogs pre-orders on the PS4: 45,102
(I again couldn't find any other version, due to them being under 25,327 pre-orders)

Total: 124,998 + 177,289 for the 7 versions that were under 25,327, 7*25,327 (302,287 open world Ubisoft Games pre-ordered)

Total pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto V on the Xbox 360 and PS3: 716,604
Total pre-orders for all open world Ubisoft Games and CoD: Ghosts on all platforms: 626,253

So what this tells us is.
GTAV on the 360 and PS3 alone has more pre-orders than CoD: Ghosts, AC4, and Watch_Dogs do on all platforms combined.

That is all.
(I corrected my calculations about a billion times, if you spot something that I forgot to edit before posting, please say so)

The pre orders are probably going to reach 100,000 per week in August.

Ha, and lots of peope who will buy the game haven't set their pre-order yet or probably won't pre-order and pick it up in store at midnight launch.

What does this tell us? GTAV is going to break all records in entertainment.

The pre-orders will go up by 1000% in the coming weeks, I'm quite sure.

rahkstar2.gif

oh and may I remember you, that's just the figures for the US pre-orders!

stores in and around the UK claim that GTAV pre-orders reached over 3 million copies now, that's massive! remember, not everyone who buys the game is going to pre-order it!

UK is only Great Britain and surrounding areas - so the pre-order figures for the rest of Europe and beyond still remain unknown.

This game, is huuuuuuuuuuuuge!

And to think, not too long ago people kept saying GTA V has been to long, gta is dead, people have forgotten and moved on, that COD was going to double its sales and other preposterous things.

With GTA titles, less titles is more. That's why GTA will continue being original, rather than being run into the ground like every other franchise out there.

I wonder how many pre-orders there are going to be compared to other big releases like MW3 and Black Ops 2. Just to put things in perspective, Black Ops 2, the game with the most pre-orders, had about the same amount of pre-orders at this time of year in the US as GTA V. I think the midnight release numbers ended up being, according to VGChartz, in the 3 - 3.5 million range total.

I expect GTA V pre-orders (in the US) to be anywhere in the 3 - 4.5 million range by early September, not including people who didn't pre-order it that will show up at the last minute. I live in a small college town, and the Black Ops 2 launch had over 350 at Gamestop. I imagine that there will be at least 400-500 people at launch for GTA V here, and we're far away from any large cities (closest Gamestop besides here is about 15 - 20 miles away). If it's going to be that busy here in a small town, I don't even want to think of how busy it will be in larger cities...

Firstly I must correct You for putting things "a bit "out perspective. black whops 2 and modern fartfare 3 combined had approximately 2.8 millions copies pre ordered in week 9 for both consoles in USA , ( 1.530 bo2 -PS3 and Xbox combined / 1.310 mw3 -PS3 and Xbox combined -of course source is VGChartz You can check it ).
SO far we are losing this battle against those two titles and I'm sad about it. Somehow I hope we'll see a miracle in upcoming 9 weeks. Cheers guys.

those numbers aren't even close.

"So what did the “retail source” tell them? That Grand Theft Auto V has gone over and beyond and reached to the stars to garner more than 3 million pre-orders in the United Kingdom alone..."

I'm pretty sure that site is mistaken. It's more like Rockstar will be shipping 3 millions copies on release to the UK, doesn't mean it'll sell those 3 million on release, let alone have 3 million pre-ordered.

One of this two is wrong.

Think about this: In the 5+ years since GTAIV came out, there have been 5 COD games, with a very conservative sales estimate at around 75 million copies sold. GTAIV sold 25 million. If you add in RDR, MP3, and LA Noire, Rockstar sold 47 million copies since GTAIV came out. Remember that development costs for Rockstar games are greatly higher because each of those titles are separate IP with a ton of detail and depth. From a profit$ perspective, the COD model is the way to go. Rockstar makes incredible games because they put quality before profit. So if you love Rockstar's philosophy of game-making and want them to continue, do gaming a favor and be sure to buy a new copy when you buy. Don't buy it used. Don't pirate it. Don't just borrow your friend's. Give Rockstar your money so they can continue making the best games in gaming.

Upcoming 9 weeks? That's over 2 months. V launches in under 7.

Noticed that I posted that LAST week, not yesterday. Also, VGChartz was several days late on the 7-13 to 7-20 info, so I only had the 9 week info at that time. I know VGChartz isn't always reliable, but it's the only site that I know of that will give you a (hopefully) ballpark estimate on US pre-orders.

Cinema Blend might be a bit off, but they said they are preparing 3 million copies for the launch day. That's enough to prove how anticipated it is. Especially considering the amount of pre-orders in the US. It's just going to rise.

I'm so glad you won't be able to buy GTAV. Cause I love it when fan boys cry in their mothers basements.

CoD will beat GTA's sales, that is certain. Remember GTA has been on pre-order for nearly a year, that's a long ass time.

No.
It's R*/investors/publishers that only care about sales not the customers. Just because a game sells a lot that doesn't make it the better product.

I never said CoD was better you ninny! Just that CoD will outsell GTA.

Is that sad: yes. GTA surely has more invested in it, but CoD will make more money.

Side Note: I own zero CoD games.

This isn't the case now.
It's different for both series in these current times.

In 5 days, GTAV got more views that CoD: Ghosts did in 2 months.
More and more people are realizing that CoD is becoming more of the same.
You'll find less and less people making positive statements about this CoD in particular.
And yes, GTAV has been up for pre-order for longer ...But it still gets more pre-orders weekly than CoD: Ghosts does.

You saw the thread, it has more pre-orders than ALL competing series do combined.

When GTAIV came out the same year CoD: World At War came out, GTAIV kicked its ass in sales.

Lets look at the facts really, GTAV (At it's current pre-release state) is beating CoD: Ghosts (At it's current pre-release state) in every aspect.
Except the fact that fish move out of your way in CoD: Ghosts, that's too advanced for GTAV.
We can only have moving fish on next-gen hardware.

The facts are biased.

Since E3 CoD has beaten the pants off GTA (hence the nudity warning on the NA rating, FACT).

Modern CoD's have always crushed sales records (FACT)

GTA is the better game (bias, but I'm sure the meta scores will prove this), but between console timing, Christmas spending and CoD, it's not going to do as good as it could have with a Spring Launch.

gta5 will have the most pre-orders BUT remember those games come out on xbox 1 and ps4 so people arnt going to pre-order before the console comes out .... you catch what im trying to get at ? like is COD: GHOSTS came out just on 360 and PS3 that i think those numbers would increase greatly.

Call of duty ghost still has lots of time before release. Here's a better comparison.

http://www.vgchartz....ders/40755/USA/ With 15 weeks left

Remember by the 10th week pre orders pick up like crazy. Around 100 thousand

First VGChartz's numbers are likely not a truly accurate representation of pre-order numbers, second the 3 million allocated to stores in the UK are number of copies to be shipped on day one, not 3 million pre-orders, third GTA IV broke the record back in 2008 when it sold 3.6 million copies on day one and GTA IV continues to sell well for Take-Two five years later something that can't really be said about CoD games thanks to previous iterations basically betting killed off after a year by the new one, that 3.6M was done when the PS3 and XB360 had a combined user base under 40 million and they basically sold it to nearly 10% of the install base at the time, it's almost four times that now and IMO it's definitely possible that GTA V could sell 8-10 million copies on day one, breaking the record held by Black Ops II's 7.5M launch sales and that IMO is a conservative, low balled estimate.

The GTA V hype machine isn't even close to being at full force yet. I think how quickly the game play video gained views is a good indication that it was under the radar for a lot of people until a few weeks ago.
