This is great for Xbox users as the console doesnt have to read anything from the disc while you play hours on end!

very good thread! icon14.gif thanks for the info

You sir OP probably havent owned 360 ..You can Install aLL games if you want to,to fasten loadings and such since game will be read from HDD. Not being able to install 2nd was already out of option when they announced there will be 2dvd's.

But on PS3 there's only the 8GB option? Or there's also this 8GB + 15GB option? Cuz I have 165GB free...

PS3 Cannot do 100% installs of games like Xbox 360 can turn.gif

so your PS3 will be spinning for hours on end while you play

That's strange, I asked XboxSupport last week on Twitter about my Xbox still reading installed games off of the disc and they said even installed games will spin and read off the disc, but Rockstar are saying it doesn't.

What? Go install any game you have right now. Then the disc will never spin when you play it.....

This isnt a new feature. Its been around for awhile...

I have a majority of my games installed yet they still read off of my disc for some reason, not a clue why.

Are you sure? It will only spin for 3-4 seconds when you launch the game , then it stops. Somthing may be wrong with your HDD.

Yeah I'm thinking my Xbox is f*cked, the games constantly read, you can hear it being read, and my Xbox is super hot right now so I'm thinking it's an Xbox fault.

Depending on what platform youre getting gta on you may want to upgrade your system. Have a nice fresh system for it.

Does disc 2 contain only the multilayer and not single player? I rather just install disc 1 then use disc 2 to play.

If you're going to do a full install both are probably going to be needed on the same flash drive.

We don't know how the files are formatted but that's not likely at all since they use the same environment. The play disc probably stores non-performance related/media content like radio stations along with the TV and radio stuff. Maybe cut scene data as well.

Wow, that's bigger than what MP3 took up when I had both discs installed. That's pretty crazy considering that all of MP3's cutscenes were actually video files and not dynamically done in engine like Rockstar normally does.

There's gonna be so much sh*t in this game.

Yeah I'm tempted to buy a new 360. Don't want a 15GB game running on this laser if it's messed up.

I for one am pleasantly surprised that Rockstar even managed to make sure Xbox 360 owners such as myself don't had to do a disc swap half way threw the game/to play multiplayer. I was actually kinda cringing on the idea and thought to myself, those sly dogs were the first and probably last to get a multi disc game to run without a disc swap. Bravo! My hat goes off to u Rockstar making sure everybody gets the most fluid experience possible. smile.gif

Sorry but I just realised how is this even news?
Every 360 game disk can be installed, just because there is a specific install disk doesn't mean the other cant be installed.
Someone actually reported/wrote about this as news notify.gif

How big relative to IV?

Grand Theft Auto IV - Xbox 360
6.4 GB (NTSC)
6.6 GB (PAL)

Source: GTAIV Game Install Size

It should be noted that it was much bigger on PC, about 13 GB.

The PC version is larger because it uses less compressed audio along with a few other things to make the PC version better. I believe some multi-platform games have nicer cutscenes (if pre-rendered) and better audio quality due to less compression on the PS3, most 360 to PS3 games are straight ports though.

PS3 exclusives definitely have better quality audio compared to your typical Xbox exclusive.

I don't get it. What does he mean by, "It will not have to spin,"?

when you install a game on your xbox you still have to have the disc in to play it, but it wont spin, the only benefit you get from it is less noise because its not spinning

Actually, installing the game does keep it from spinning, but the lack of spinning means the disc will not get damaged due to the fact that it is only required to first log in. This greatly extends the life of the CD; that's why I always used to install my games. I remember having GTA IV with that circle scratch around it, trying to buffer it out, and getting it installed and I only needed it to first boot up. It was awesome.

Not that useless, we have confirmation that the game is roughly 15gb. Previously it was all speculations, some saying 16gb, others guessing 10gb. R* have confirmed the total is 15gb. So in a way it is news.

The second disc, you can install or just run it from disc.

Personally with the 360's habit of marking discs, installing the second "play" disc is better.

Upgrade your hard drive, you can get a decent sized one on amazon for like 25/$40

again GREAT news because 360 is too noisy when dvd works. my only concern is if the usb is fast enough for this kind of use.

GTA IV is only... 6.8

@Monty Mantis: The Xbox needs to read the disc, but after that it reads information from the storage device. Takes some strain off of the CPU from having to pull resources and power loading files, scripts and all that technical stuff. Still need disc 2 inside it though.

Do the newer xbox 360's that came out make as much noise as the old white boxes?

I only have an old pro xbox 360 and it makes so much noise compared to my ps3 slim.

Not trying to start an argument, just want to know.
