I'm thinking of buying FX 8320 or 3750k used for playing mainly gta iv and I read that intel is better at single threaded apps and amd at multi threaded apps.

the AMD is 100+$ cheaper.

I'd go with Intel. It depends on your budget.

why in the world are you trying to build a pc for a 4+ yr old game... gta v will be out soon enough, AND IT WILL BE BETTER OPTIMIZED meaning not so much need for the beefiest hardware you can get...

GTA V won't be out for a while, but i agree that its not that important to build a PC for GTA IV nowadays. original poster, basically GTA IV cares about quad-core CPU with high clock speeds. the GPU part of the equation comes in when selecting detail distance and reflections, shadows, etc - and it greatly depends on your monitor's resolution, which you left out of your post...
