No other open world games come close to what R* does I know obviously its hard work passion and patients but I'd like to know why nobody can compete with them.

Ubisoft make great games but the games they make just are not as good as R* detail and story wise R* are well ahead of any open world game devs for sure.

Their focus on long term over short term profits allows them to be patient and produce a great game instead of a rushed, half-assed one. The frequency of delays is proof that they strive for perfection.

Because very few developers are prepared to spend 5 years on one game, which is what RDR, MP3 & V had. They also have a lot more autonomy than most developers, so they have no problem delaying a game even if it upsets fans & shareholders, but ultimately results in a better quality product.

That and some of the most talented peop's in the business.

Why? Because when others make games in 1 or 2 years, Rockstar takes 5, which means lot's of development, changes, detail and so on. Other then Gran Turismo I don't know any other company that took 5 years to make a game like Midnight Club L.A.

I know right, it's like they have thought of everything this time. But most of it is feedback of course.
If they forget something, people will ask for it to be in the next game, if they do something wrong people beg to exclude it from the next gta.

Like I always said before Rockstar makes the BEST open world games. They were sorta the first ones to make it. They were the first one to make open world games popular.

Rockstar takes risks with their games. Every risk they take pays off big, excluding a couple of things from IV. Although they take risks, they keep the core of the game the same, which keeps the original fanbase interested.

Rockstar cares about every small detail, making their games much deeper and more enjoyable.

Also they don't just put some mediocre new game out every year and run with the money, they genuinely care about their fans and the quality of their games. If it takes 5 years and a delay to perfect the game, then thats how it's gotta be so we can experience the full polished game.

And that's why Rockstar are my favorite game developers.

I was giving the example of a racing game, but even Skyrim took a lot of time and as you could see, wasn't a Rockstar Game and even being targeted to a very specific crowd, was a huge success, they took their time like R* and it paid off.

They even followed the bugs and patches model from Rockstar. lol.gif

Time and creative freedom is an important aspect I think. No doubt a lot of it is their talent, especially that of the creative core of R* from people like The Benz and the Houser brothers, but the fact that they're able to develop a game at their own pace and make sure it is held to the highest standard is a big factor.

What other major open-world games are out there that are similar? Assassin's Creed comes out yearly, Saints Row is releasing a sequel that looks almost identical to the previous game, in the same city and everything.

The only other developer I can think of that can boast massive sales as well as critical acclaim like R* is Bethesda. Not quite the same since they're making open-world RPG's, but I think there is a similar philosophy between the two devs. And you can see some parallels between the, like how they have consistency creatively (Houser brothers at R* since GTA III, Todd Howard at Bethesda since the early 90's) and take time on their games to make sure they're up to par (Elder Scrolls V came out over five years after Elder Scrolls IV).
