Hello, all!
My desktop computer often crashes when I'm playing GTA IV for too long. Maybe this happens due to overheating issues, because temperature of CPU raises up to 90C while playing the game... So I am wondering, how to prevent my computer from over-heating (if it's even possible)?

Yeah, 90C is 'a bit' too much so that's likely the reason as to why IV crashes after a few hours or so. What are the system specifications (processor, graphic-card, etc.), and what CPU cooler and PC case do you have?

Make sure the computer has a proper airflow in the case and around it, after cleaning the dust inside it ofcourse.
And if that doesn't work, then it's time to get a better cooler. They are pretty cheap these days.

Get some thermal grease and apply it on the processor , because the computer calculates only the temperature of the processor , and try to keep the computer case cover open for the summer.

Check to make sure the fans are working correctly and that everything is seated correctly.

Processor: Inter Core™2 Quad CPU
Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs)
2.39 GHz, 4 GB RAM

These are my computer's specifications (I have Windows XP btw).

First off, where are you getting that temperature from?

Second, have you ever done any "hardcore" (from a certain point of view) PC fixing before? If not... do yourself a favor and have someone look at this for you. Doesn't have to cost you anything but make sure it's someone who doesn't do more harm than good. CPUs and Mainboards are expensive.

I think I have solved this problem. I changed the resolution and yesterday I was able to play for 2 hours and 30 minutes straight and it didn't crash. I ended up normally quitting the game, once I got bored. I will try to play today too.

That just solves the outcome, not the reason of overheating.

I was going to say the same, but if he's happy he might as well just leave it until it comes back haha
