One of the trademarks of GTA is being able to go all out and cause as much chaos as possible. It has not reached its greatest potential, because the wreckage disappears if you decide to travel more than 3 blocks away. GTA V has to make this more realistic. I would like to see police cars arriving and FIB agents there trying to hunt you down from the crime scene. Also, could the paramedics in this game actually do something?

My last point of this thread is that I'd like to see smoke rising from the area that I've just assaulted. The change in scenery would help the player feel accomplished haha. Besides, chaos in liberty city is boring, because of how small scale it is. (Opinion, I know.) What do you guys think?

So is there any hope for this upgrade on the next gen consoles? How much better will the PS4 and Xbox One really be?

"It was very difficult in a PlayStation 3 timeframe, where you donít have enough RAM to store information about every object in the whole universe. The areas would just be refreshed when you leave and come back. But now we have a lot more to work with."

Not that much better, I'd guess. Not for a long time. Games right now are (as much as ever) concerned more with the visual qualities of games than the mechanics. Which is a shame.

The only real way to achieve more persistence is to stream the information to your harddrives and back into RAM again when you return to the area. It would be useful for all sorts of things. Not only for the results of your destructive rampages, but also for things as simple as being able to leave your cars wherever you want.

The problem with this is that you'd have to be able to guarantee a certain amount of free diskspace for the game to achieve this. Furthermore, the game will need to clear up such objects sooner or later in a way that's reasonably predictable for the player, so that things don't disappear in a way that seems too random or arbitrary.

I don't think we will see this sort of thing this gen.

Well obviously hardware on Next Gen would be better, but most companys aim to make graphics, story, voice acting and sound effects the top priority, not how much chaos you can cause.

People here are misinformed.

Mark Cerny confirmed that the PS4's compute units and their theoretical performance can be used for computing and for raster.
That's why you saw so many next gen games contributing in the physics area. Fluid, fire, cloth, hair etc. All done using particles with the exception being the hair and the cloth. Destruction also will be vastly improved compared to last gen games.

Just so you know, paramedics do actually do something. They attempt to revive pedestrians you killed. Not super realistic (they should take them into the ambulance with stretchers and so on), but at least they do have a purpose.

In GTAIV it's firetrucks that don't do anything. In San Andreas they automatically responded to fires similarly to paramedics responding to peds down.

Exciting times coming for GTA on PS4/Xbox1 in the next 4-6 years. I think we will be in
for quite a treat. Lot's of possibilities with increased RAM. Can't wait to see what Rockstar will do. BUT for now let's focus
on GTA V. Love and hate thinking about the future.

Red Faction Guerrilla had persistent destruction and it had good points and bad points. Don't think rockstar should focus on it before simply adding building destruction in the first place.

Yeah, it was also a problem that fires didn't last long enough for fire trucks to be even needed. Hopefully the fire mechanics are a bit more like SA in that regard in V.

Wait for it, have children in the mean time, next GTA won't be back before they'll start marrying.

In GTA 3, I crashed into the garage for the banshee, my car was there for 3 missions. I think V can do something like that

Not ten times better, it could be a massive dissapointment like PS3 was, I expected much more from PS3, but it ended up just being a PS2 with better graphics and online capabilities

Apart from one or two games nothing much really changed, infact developers got lazy and less features were in games,

Bring back the old PS2 era were games had originality and depth and developers bothered beecause they knew competition was stiff,

PS2 had 300 titles or more, PS2 had a about 150 of which most were garbage tradeable games

Dont expect magic on next gen, just expect the usual straightforward games unless someone makes something original or complex i dont expect anything much more than that.
