Someone asked 'If we install Gta V on xbox 360 do we have to insert other disks or not'

R* replied with this...

'Gta V is the largest and ost ambitious game we have yet created, and takes full advantage of every ounce of processing power availible in current generation of consoles. In order to provide the best possible experience for such a massive and detailed world, the game will have installation requirements on both xbox 360 and Playstation 3 systems. For xbox 360, GTA V will ship on two disks; Disc 1 will be used for a one time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game. After the install, players will be able to enjoy both GTA V and GTA Online without the need to switch discs This initial install will require an xbox 360 Hard Drive or an external 16gb USB flash drive with atleast 8gb of free space. If using a USB flash drive it must be at least USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for xbox 360 use. A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance. For PS3, the game ships on one disc and will install content as soon as you insert the game. The install is roughly 8gb, and players will be able to play as soon as the install is complete.

Thoughts?

There's a difference between whining and supplying info.

Personally I have never been a fan of running things directly off of a USB drive. On both my PC and my Xbox. But it works and they are cheap, so 360 users who are tight on money are in luck.

Just glad to hear that it is two discs. I'll be installing both discs no matter what, but its good to know.

Guys with a 4gb xbox, don't but the SLIM HARD DRIVE, buy an old school hard drive for really cheap and open it up and it will fit in your slim xbox. Both hard drives are exactly the same but Microsoft changed the outer case so the old hard drives don't fit the new xbox slims.

XBOX SLIM HARD DRIVE: $60/£80
OLD SCHOOL HARD DRIVE: $10/£15

Why the f*ck do you need to "supply info" when there is a topic in the News section dedicated to the Asked & Answered?

You can buy an 8gb USB stick for $1, it really isn't a problem at all.

Now that's just friggen stupid. Lots of games on the 360 require an install, or multiple discs - and the company doesn't release their own USB stick for people that have small HDDs. That's just incredibly stupid and a waste.

I didn't see any info regarding this. Even if it wasn't needed it's not whining so stop being a dick.

I don't know of any other 360 titles that require an install to play the game. Every game has an optional install to potentially improve performance or load times. Some games have optional installs that add content like extra cars in Forza 4 or multiplayer for Halo 4. But GTA V is the first game I'm aware of that will require an install to play at all. I thought this was against Microsoft's policies because 360s have been sold without HDDs. Rockstar must have worked out a special deal with MS to allow this to be possible.

Yeah, that was bad wording on my part. I do find it strange that it apparently requires an install, maybe they just worded it strangely. We'll have to wait and see.

This thread is quickly going to become one focused on complaining about this. Just buy your $5 16 GB flash drive and play the game. Seriously you can go to a booth at some convention and people will hand you flash drives with their logos on them. That is how cheap they are.

You can afford to buy however many £40 games but can't afford a hard drive? Alrighty then. You can get a brand new decent sized (250GB) hard drive for ~£20 It's totally worth it and saves you the carry on of playing from a USB.

My PS3 only had 12GB which is slightly better than 4GB but still useless as f*ck. Cost me £35 for a 320GB HD.

What legitimate gamers are playing with only 4-GB?
The only people who should have those are Kinect fans.
Kinect fans aren't old enough to play this game anyway.

People who can afford a £150 console and £40 games but not a £20 hard drive.

I got a 12GB PS3 but only because it worked out cheaper to install a hard drive myself than to buy a PS3 with a HD pre installed. Saved £40!

Yeah, flash drive are faster because they don't have any mechanical parts and don't need to spin up like a hard drive does.

It will be bottlenecked by the USB port. I believe they only have a transfer speed of ~50mb/s but if you were using a SATA II HD (which consoles use) then it would have transfer speeds of ~300mb/s.

Using a USB will slow it down and give you a lot of texture pop in.
