I just came across this.

QUOTE
AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin police are looking for an 18-year-old man who made a threat to "shoot up a kindergarten school" on Facebook.

According to an arrest warrant, police received a tip on Thursday that Justin R. Carter had made a posting on his Facebook page that stated "I'm f****d in the head alright, I think I'ma a shoot up a kindergarten and watch the blood of innocent rain down and eat the beating heart of one of them."

When authorities looked into it further, they found out that Carter's last known address is within 100 yards of Woolridge Elementary School.

They're doing it to show that they're actually doing something, it's much easier to lock up kids for an online joke than hunt for a group of 'real' maniacs.

Exactly what I was thinking.

No way he's convicted. No crime has been committed here.

This is why I never want to go to Texas. I know it's not right to stereotype a certain state for their behavior but the laws there are just way different. If any state was ever to succeed, I'd easily see Texas as one of the most likely to truely attempt it.

Everything is bigger in Texas.... including the stupidity.

Yeah, the stupidity level increased when George W Bush finished as president! Unfortunately, while he was president the US stupidity also increased.

You know, it's unconstitutional to arrest someone prior to committing a crime and treat them like they've already committed it. Unless you say "terrorism". If you add terrorism to the mix you can strip the guy of any rights he might have had the illusion of having.

Thanks to the ignorant mass of the public not only in america, but worldwide, our rights are being taken away day by day. Apparently the 1st Amendment no longer applies, and your guilty until proven innocent. And to the mother who reported this, she should go f*ck herself, she committed an illegal act by tracking his IP address and finding his address. What a bitch.

By the way, this isn't a republican-democrat issue, sooner our later you'll figure out that democrats and republicans all work for the federal reserve, and want to bankrupt the country so people are more willing to having their rights stripped.

Just signed the petition. This is way beyond ridiculous.

Right behind you man. 'In light of recent situations..' pft. In that case, there should be 1,000's of arrests taken place right now for comments said over an online interaction. I'd probably be one of those arrested.

Ever heard of an "inchoate offense"?

Ever heard of an investigation? There's no evidence that he was preparing to commit a crime, besides one OBVIOUSLY sarcastic comment followed by lol and jk. Yet he's still imprisoned.

Right, his arrest and incarceration is bullsh*t. However, your comment is also bullsh*t.

Well you don't sound to grateful of the fact that thousands died for your independence. Stop being apathetic and do something, how can you not care about your civil liberties? That's preposterous, it's like saying you don't care about oxygen.

They didn't create the establishment we are fighting today. They created a republic, not a socialist state claimed to be a democracy. The US governments been this way for 60+ years.

QUOTE (http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/27/texas-teen-makes-violent-joke-during-video-game-is-jailed-for-months/)
In February, Justin Carter was playing “League of Legends” — an online, multiplayer fantasy game — when another player wrote a comment calling him insane. Carter’s response, which he now deeply regrets, was intended as joke.

“He replied ‘Oh yeah, I’m real messed up in the head, I’m going to go shoot up a school full of kids and eat their still, beating hearts,’ and the next two lines were lol and jk,” said Jack Carter, Justin’s father, in a statement to a local news channel.

He even said "lol" and "jk" to indicate that he wasn't serious, and he got arrested nonetheless and that for eight freaking years? Wow, just wow.

QUOTE (http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/27/texas-teen-makes-violent-joke-during-video-game-is-jailed-for-months/)
But a Canadian woman who saw the post looked up Carter’s Austin address, determined that it was near an elementary school, and called the police.

The question now is why did she feel the need to do so? The kid, who isn't even a kid as he turned 19 not too long ago, was playing a videogame and that is what happened then. So what? I know enough people who become furious at times while playing a game, but does that mean they have an anger problem? This is basically the same situation now. If you're playing a videogame and you say something like "I’m going to go shoot up a school full of kids", is it really necessary to take it seriously? And that, even after you clearly have indicated that you're not serious? What's up with these overprotective people?

QUOTE (http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/27/texas-teen-makes-violent-joke-during-video-game-is-jailed-for-months/)
“Justin was the kind of kid who didn’t read the newspaper,” said Jack Carter. “He didn’t watch television. He wasn’t aware of current events. These kids, they don’t realize what they’re doing. They don’t understand the implications. They don’t understand.”

How is it even possible to not be aware of the most recent news? He's an adult and if videogames are not everything in his life, then he should be aware of the news. Besides, TV isn't the only source for news, because there are things that are called radio and newspaper. I barely watch TV anymore and I'm still up to date with the news. So unbelievable, isn't it?!

Right, this is ridiculous. I have signed the petition now.

F*ck this place man. We would have been better off if we were under British rule. And what civil liberties? If I can get arrested for a joke on an online game, why should I be grateful for that? Even IF I wanted to fight, and even IF I had the balls to do it, I'd be going up against the whole US government. f*ck thought.

I thought I mentioned this, so you and future generations have freedom. Are you going to keep moving from place to place after their government becomes corrupt? By the way, south africa has no rights. Your basically given privileges that can be taken away at any time.

Why run away? Fight for the republic, stand your ground. Don't let the establishment win.

I'm not gonna fight for something I don't give two sh*ts about. dozingoff.gif

Well you don't sound to grateful of the fact that thousands died for your independence. Stop being apathetic and do something, how can you not care about your civil liberties? That's preposterous, it's like saying you don't care about oxygen.

So what you're saying is that thousands of people died for his independence.... and that he shouldn't let the establishment they created win...

I agree with you guys but you're making it really difficult.

They didn't create the establishment we are fighting today. They created a republic, not a socialist state claimed to be a democracy. The US governments been this way for 60+ years.

The same socialist state which gave you social security, medicare, and banking regulations. The horror.

I hate to break it to you, but I don't want Social Security, Medicare, and banking regulations. How about the federal government stays out of the citizen's business?

And I want to live in a country where I can feel secure when I retire, I can get loans at a decent price, a minimum wage that you can survive on, and enough regulations on corporations to the point where they can be held accountable for their actions.

@MrMordecai You realize that it has only reached to this point because people like you, are afraid to fight the tyrannical hands of the federal government because you fear for yourself. Do you think Paul Revere, or George Washington, or Thomas Jefferson cared about what happened to them? No, as long as they fought for the freedom of the future generations, they would fight.

Washington and Jefferson also owned human beings. Don't idolize them.

So I should idolize someone who sells guns to Mexican drug cartels but strips me of my right to own guns at the same time. As well as the Hollywood hypocrites who "care so much for the victims of gun violence", yet fail to realize that gun laws don't stop crime, and Chicago is a pure example of that. A completely gun-free zone that is the murder capital of the nation.

And you also fail to realize it's not about what you want, it's about what the republic was based on, and I assure you, the republic was not based on government assistance and Medicare.

Yes, rights for the rich white guys. Just like it is now.

Also, I know at some point you will bring up the Bill of Rights. I'll have you know that prior to the Civil War, the first ten amendments only applied to the federal government. States got do what they want, because states are always right. Always

Right there, that's what just crossed the line.

Are you f*cking kidding me? We have a BLACK president who supports the New World Order, hates the United States of America, and gives himself $600,000 raises! This is not a race issue, you better handle your state of mind right now, because it couldn't be farther from the truth. The enemy is not the white man, or the black man, or the purple man, but the men who sit at the top and strip you of your rights. It just goes to show how immature that way of thinking is, and you have the mainstream media to thank for that.

Clearly it was a sarcastic comment made over the internet over an online game. People lose their temper at times and say things that they don't mean. But this guy even said "lol" and "jk" which should have made it easier to understand he wasn't being serious. I don't know what triggered such a response from the Canadian woman but it may have been the fact that he's 19 years old. I'm only 17 and even I know that it isn't right to joke about such things and that many people could take it seriously. Still, I don't think the guy deserves to be imprisoned for 8 years as that is beyond ridiculous. I signed the petition, best of luck to him and his family.
