I just bought one of the new Alienware desktops. I'm extremely inexperienced when it comes to a pc. I paid 1200 for it. It's being delivered still.

I don't understand what's in it but here's what I remember

The processor is a Intel i7 with turbo boost 2, upto 3.9ghz
The memory is 8gb
The storage is 1tb
It has a 1.5gb Nvidia GeForce GTX 660
It has 2 years warranty including spills and damages.
It has the alienfx color scheming
I'm going to be using a 21 inch hd tv as the monitor.
I bought a few games too.

Is this good for PC gaming and worth the money (although its a bit late to get a refund)?

As far as I'm aware, hardware in the UK is slightly more expensive than here, for example, but... you have paid 1200 for this? turn.gif That are like $1800 or a bit more and it only has a GTX660 as graphic-card. Are you sure that it's a GTX660? Alienware PC's are not worth their price, no matter what.

Yeah that's definitely the graphic card. 1.5gb version.

Even in my slightly drunken state I reserve the right to call you an idiot for spending so much money on a machine that's not even worth half of that.

I think one of the best things about it is that it can be easily upgraded as the hardware is "clip in, clip out"

eh, it might be worth half that. should he have spent that much? no. but tis too late to worry about that now. original poster, start learning how to tweak your game settings to get the kind of graphics and frame you want. good luck.

The point is that you have spent way too much money for way too little hardware. Alienware PC's are not worth their money, you are paying significantly more money for no benefits whatsoever. You have just wasted half of the money for that PC for basically nothing.

You wasted a lot of money on a product you knew little to nothing about prior to purchasing it, you deserve to be insulted for making such a stupid decision.

I'm sorry but there are families that live off of less than that and you waste it on a machine that's not even worth half of that.

A very important question, do you really need that Alienware crap?
Alienware is an overpriced brand, it's and too and too expensive, don't come up with you can upgrade
components like CPU and GP because that will not work.
First of all, you have very restricted limitations when it comes to upgrading because of the fan.

And second, why are you even asking if it's good while you already bought it??
This is like shooting a criminal and then asking questions.

Well, the graphics card could at least be a GTX660OEM, which is the same chip as the GTX760, albeit with much lower clocks. But still... how come this PC is so expensive I have no idea.

It wasn't a waste, it's still a decent-high end PC, he just spent like 500 pounds too much at a guesstimate. People don't do their research and waste money, but someone else cashes in.

Well he's bought it now. You've got a powerful compact computer which should play the latest games at high settings 1080p. Any issues which are on the smaller scale, post in the random questions thread.
Have fun PC gaming icon14.gif

Exactly why did you rush? Just why?

Dude, you could have built something far better than this at that cost.

But anyway, you can play any current game at ultra.

Rushing is never good and never has been good.
Laptops are just gimmicks when it comes to gaming. The looks of it, how it performs and all.
Laptops are only good for school and work. Gaming, you have to be very carefull when you are gaming
and you have to keep an eye on the heat and the C degrees.
I just can't think of gaming on high settings and playing at 1080p, I just really can't think of it.
You stress the little mobile GPU too much and also the CPU. And only just one fan.
The heat is always the main concern on laptops regardless laptops for school or for gaming.

It depends on the resolution. If it's Full-HD, then it might be hard to max out all current titles, though, it depends on the AA settings as well.

I wouldn't say that the system is bad by any means, but it was kind of a waste of money. For that much money, you could get an i5 instead of an i7, which barely makes any difference in games, and a graphic-card like a GTX770. And he could even have saved some money.

I think I should point out that the x51 is a desktop computer.

Crap! You got that right. I didn't know Alienware also makes desktop pc's.
I was wondering why I didn't see the GTX660M so maybe a typo.
So Alienware is really an overpriced brand, even for pc's.

And yeah, suggestions are too late haha.

Not a chance. You need a GTX670 minimum to play a whole swathe of current generation games at usable framerates with everything turned up to maximum.

Enjoy it. Overpriced sure, but still a decent machine.
