C'yeah, earlier today I was reading a topic in the forums today. I went through the topic and scrolled through the pages, giving a single nod and shake here and there when suddenly... I spot a certain user (not going to put his name out there for obvious reasons), sporting an avatar of a cartoon pony, posting pictures of "sexy", anthromorphic My Little Pony characters.

One of them was posing in a lascivious manner. The artist must have made an attempt to have older men adhere to their sexual desires by rendering an appealing set of legs.

...

There was another one too. A pony was was seen with her humanized arms behind her neck, displaying her set of large, drooping boobs. Another attempt of drawing attention.

Now through my years of being on the internet, I acknowledged what was behind this and that was: bronies.

Yes, bronies. Males who admire the children's show My Little Pony: Friendship is magic. Males who actually somehow submits into liking animated renders of a real life animal, a pony at that. Talking, bright colored ponies with big eyes and are meant to be appealing towards little pre-pubescent girls who like to play dress up and have tea time with over-sized stuffed animals but now, somehow, have garnered an older male, yes, male audience.

...

How is this possibly explainable?! How come older men - "bronies" - actually have a huge liking for My Little Pony? Can anyone tell me? What is so appealing about My Little Pony: Friendship is magic, boys? What is that one thing that has led you to praising the show? It's a childrens show meant for little girls. I haven't watched the show myself, nor will I want to - but how is this even explainable? Why do some "bronies" think "sexy" cartoon ponies are attractive? What is so appealing about them?

I don't get it, nor will I think I ever will.

Why, just why?

Personal tastes are subjective. You can't understand why people like some things. I adore the old Addams Family show, Pi (1998) and Xavier Renegade Angel, but I've read reviews of those shows/movie from people who absolutely hated them (many people who've hated the latter two).

With the porn I imagine it grew out of some sort of sick joke. I remember lots of bronies on 4chan a few years ago would usually react negatively when pony porn was posted. And then horniness can really screw with your head, so there are definitely people out there who genuinely like that stuff.

Also in the last brony thread someone argued the point that you can't judge the whole brony community by just a few people. They're not all sick and twisted, just a few individuals in comparison to everypony.

There are weird people everywhere. Let them go about their business and embarrass themselves. Nobody asks me why I spend time on a forum devoted to a video game or have a heater on while the air conditioning is running.

I completely understand personal tastes are subjective but I just can't grasp the concept as to why there's a whole cult following of this "brony" thing. It's so strange to me.

Don't get me started on these rejects.

I quit using Battlelog forums because of the whole My Little Pony craze. It's just something some popular kid used for attention and finally got it then it became a phenomenon amongst other adult-kids and their ridiculous lives. Personal tastes is something that can be used to defend such a cause but when it involves just a cult-following, then it's not personal taste, it's just another troll following.

It's a disease that should require euthanization of all it's victims.

I saw that too, people should have the sense to not post that creepy stuff. I think people do things like that because of a severe lack of self awareness and/or autism.

I honestly hate bronies, they are the world's biggest sh*tposters on every forum I've been on.

Yes, because people with varied predilections automatically fit into autism category.

They find the animals sexually attractive, isn't it obvious?
No grown man could like a show like that based on its own merits - because it has no merits, being a specifically designed for little girls whose brains are not fully developed.
The only logical answer must therefore be that they are sexually aroused by the characters.
A statement bore out by the sheer amount of pornographic material floating through the internet.

And if that is the case, so what? People can't help the things that turn them on.
Though I don't know why anyone would find herbivorous creatures arousing.

I can understand the bronies who aren't the more hardcore followers fully, it's a different interest and that's fine. And as with all groups, you can get a scale from passing interest to obsessive/creepy, like the one you saw.

It's nothing different from any other group/cult/interest point, just happens to be more popular for what it is compared to other ones. It's for this reason why the MLP following is more...scrutinised than others.

@Typhus ...no. Like with all fandoms a small, small percentage are involved in the sexualised part of it.

I know what posts and member you are talking about. But there is one thing you must understand, most Bronies are not into that kind of sh*t. Furries on the other hand, fap night and day to that sh*t. Not all Bronies are Furries. Furries like sexualized humanoid animals, it's kinda what makes them Furries. I'll never understand why some people are turned onto those animals.

But I do understand why bronies watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Cause it's a decent show. Sure it's targeted at little girls, but it is good enough to attract people outside that target demographic. Would you find a girl weird, when she watches or plays something that isn't targeted at her? I give you an example, GTA isn't targeted at girls, yet plenty of them play it. Hell, we got a few of them on this forum.

And yeah, I've watched the show's first season, to get what the big deal was about.(And cause I had a lot of free time, and needed something to do) Haven't watched past the second season opening two episodes, so I have no idea how much the show has changed. Though the show was created by Lauren Faust, who is married to the guy who created The Powerpuff Girls, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. She also worked on them.

Also, for all of you trekkies out there.

Q was the villain in the first two episodes of season 2. Oh and he also helped out in a documentary about this Brony stuff.

...no, furries are just those interested in anthropomorphic animals. A small percentage (like bronies) are involved in the sexual part of it.

Bronies are trolls and you should look at it from that perspective since they aren't for real.

Actually I think it started as trolls. Then other people jumped on it thinking they were for real. And now the original (troll)bronies are laughing their heads off.

Edit: Quick, Twilight Sparkle is the element of what?

Could have sworn he was referring to the dragon. I mean look! He makes fire with his f*cking finger! wow.gif

Anyway, when you guys say bronies are creepy pedophiles, trolls, etc. you're lumping the people who only watch the show and talk about it online (on the forums they stick to) in with the bronies you're actually talking about (the ones who post pony pictures in random threads everywhere). That'd be like if everyone who didn't play GTA lumped us in with the people who go on rampages and blame GTA for it.

The disparity between the number of posts here saying "to each their own" and the amount of vitriol for people who do innocuous things like post "selfies" in the Facebook thread says a lot about this forum, I fear.

Are bronies scapegoats or something? Or do people want to believe that anyone with an interest in MLP also jerks off to it 3 times a day and their entire character is defined by it...?

You know, someone could think all GTA players jerk off in the strip clubs, play GTA for their entire waking life, and can only talk about GTA. Then they go to troll on a GTA forum because those guys are total losers, right?

AKA stop being dicks, people.
