Do you guys think a GTA Game in Germany would work? I personally think it would, given that Germany has it's fair share of crime. Plus, it also has awesome techno music, badass ostrock, and gypsies and neo-nazis that are just begging to be run over, shot, blown up, etc. Also, Germany has some very intimidating locomotives.

No, there are very few places outside of the US that would fit the feel of a Grand Theft Auto game, since it's meant to take the piss out of just that type of lifestyle (American, first-world society) so the only places that'd work well with GTA would either be Canada or the UK.

Germany's just not built for GTA, it's language barrier is reason enough to stay far away from that territory.

I don't think that GTA will ever take place in Germany, it just doesn't fit to the overall theme of Grand Theft Auto. The game series as a whole is based on the popculture and as such, a city or an area in the United States fits the best; far better than an European country. Considering the fact that GTA is popular all over the world, it makes more sense to have English as the main language. If you want to represent Germany in a crime simulator like this one, then you also have to take over the language, German in this case.

It wasn't really a problem in GTA IV where Niko spoke English to other Serbs (which would never happen in real life).

Could you at least give a reason as to why it wouldn't work?

Yes but it is not the first language of the country, and that's more than enough reason for the GTA player to try to avoid a game that's not centered around a country that doesn't use English as its primary language.

Regardless, the atmosphere of Germany just doesn't fit Grand Theft Auto's very parodical nature as it centers on an entirely different lifestyle and there are only a few select countries that are similar enough to the US for the game to work there. These countries would most likely be either Canada or the UK for the reasons I've already stated.

That's correct, but does that have to mean that all Germans do speak English, and more importantly: does that mean that English is a widely spreaded lanuage in this country? After all, the native language in Germany is German and not English. I'm living in Austria and I would say I'm not that bad in speaking English, although far from being perfect, but do I speak it the whole time? Honestly, no. German is the official language here, which means it's the most important one. Although, a considerably amount of people are able to speak English.

Of course, Uni is the one to want Germany in GTA. notify.gif

Isn't there like some type of law where you can't reference WW2/Can't legally have any Nazi memorabilia.

This is the most stupid thread I've seen today - every country has crime, music, and gypsies.

Yep. In Germany, they don't even sell model airplane kits if Swastikas come with them. Strangely enough, that didn't keep them from showing "New Kids: Turbo" uncut in Germany...

English is not the centre of the universe, so for most GTA players is not the prefered language. As I am from Germany, I prefere to hear german language ingame instead of english. I think also, for spanish speking GTA players spanish would be the language of choise, fo the french speaking french and so on. Don`t generalize the GTA players.

That was an old top down game. The only thing it had to do with modern GTA is the name. A modern GTA set in London would be a whole different story.

Nothing against London, but driving in London is the komplete oposite of fun, lefthanded trafic realy suks. No meter top down, 3D or even HD, london is not the right place for a game like GTA.
