My Pioneer also has a remote, but I don't think I've ever used it other than the first time after I had the unit installed since the stereo is right there in front of me. It's actually harder for me to use the remote. And I have never seen a fob like that, maybe it's an aftermarket security feature?
OnStar is a service that will detect when you've been in a crash and will dispatch emergency services to your assistance. They will also tell you what's wrong if your check engine light comes on. They even know when you're not wearing your seat belt, lol. They will give you driving directions if you get lost. I'm sure there's more, but I don't remember everything. My stepmom's Impala has the service. I don't know if the service is available outside the United States and Canada, though.
