Would anyone want to have a new GTA take place maybe in the 50s, 60s, or 70s? With The Stones, Beatles, etc... on the radio. New cars and aircraft, the colors back then were bright. And the city environment was different than today

I'd be cool with a 60s GTA. They could satirize loads of topics like Vietnam, hippies, the civil rights movement, biker gangs e.g. A 70s GTA would be great as well.

Hmm.. good idea, but maybe let's just stick towards the current era one. I already agree with this time setting with modern period tech. Why don't we just include all classic cars instead in the modern era?

I prefer current era GTAs, but I guess any GTA set during any era would still be cool. Although I hate the 70s (cars, music, style, everything!).

GTA should just stay in the modern times IMO

Yes,SF or LV in 60/70 would be great. And really don't care about novelties like internet and cellphone in game. They really didn't miss me in RDR and LA Noire.

Man, I will be the happiest person on earth if Rockstar make a GTA game set during the late 60s. It can feature a lot of social commentaries during that era: Vietnam, Cold War, the hippies and its marijuana, civil rights movement and many more. Also the fashion, music and vehicles during this era are awesome. Oh, and the weapons are very cool too; such as M14 rifle and AR10.

If Rockstar sticks with multiple protagonists, I think there's a lot of potentiel in doing a 70's San Fierro (which I want more than even VC for VI)

Protagonist 1- A high rolling African American pimp, who's diverifying into the drug trade. (His story would play out like the 70's blaxploitation films)

Protagonist 2- A young Chinese immigrant, who is unwillingly being pulled into the Asian gangs, which were prominent in 70's San Fransisco, to provide for his struggling family.

Protagonist 3- A member of a newly formed biker gang, who are made up of a bunch of Vietnam War veterans. His story would be much like the popular biker movies of the late 60's/early 70's.

GTA in the 1860's would be the best.

I'd really like to see a GTA set in the 60's. Rockstar are amazing when it comes to setting that special vibe in their games. For example, look at VC. They wanted to capture that 80's Miami feeling, and they most certainly did accomplish that.

Of course I'd like an old setting for a GTA. I'd choose the 1980s, though. Maybe the late 1970s too, depending on the city.

Would I like to? Sure, it would be fantastic to see an HD remake of a city set in the past. I would like to see how R* capture the atmosphere, culture and compare it to titles such as Vice City which was set 27 years ago in the III era. But I don't think we'll be seeing any more games which aren't set in the present as this has been the case will all the HD era games so far. But if R* do choose to do something from the past it needs to be fresh, although I don't see it happening since they will look to link GTA IV V and VI together being part of the HD era.

This.

GTA VIce City in late 70's or 80's, in HD on next gen consoles would be amazing.

That sounds pretty sweet imo, would make an awesome GTA game.

If we see a game not set in current times, I think it needs to be a prequel about Michael's earlier bank robbing life. That would be pretty great, though, the first time a protag has been in 2 games is probably not going to happen.

Your poll should have been what time period. 50's 60's 70's

I'd def like to see one late 1960's in either Chicago or Las Vegas.

Chicago late 60s... I'm in! Vegas was to small, unless they include Frisco/San Fierro. How about New Orleans during the late 60s? The area cover from the city itself, swampland, cottonfield and some small towns. Or maybe Texas with Mexican border? How about that?

Whatever the location is, I'm more interested in the setting: late 1960s.

This is a small concept for a GTA in an old setting I had in mind since a long time ago.

Vice City, Florida, late 1970s, during the rise of the cocaine traffic. 2 playable characters:

1- A middle age corrupt cop (moustache, mirror glasses, brown 1970s style suit; rude and racist).

2- A younger and recently enlisted cop; he would have been the model student, good education... He is actually an undercover internal affairs officer who has the mission to stop the 1st character.

Even if they are cops they would act as criminals, eventually controling the drug flow, racketeering, etc., though with the advantage of being in the good side of the law (handcuffing, sometimes removing wanted level, etc). While the storyline goes on, the younger cop becomes more violent, rude and corrupt, forgetting that his main goal is to end with the other officer. At some point, both characters would have to fight, so the player would have to choose who lives and who dies. Obviously, when the story is finished, both would be avaliable for free roaming.

However, if the location would be whole new, New Orleans could be an interesting choce.

I was thinking of this the other day. It seems that the GTA past set games were put in iconic times. As we all know, the late 60's and early 70's were pretty iconic times. Car chases, bank robberies, rise of drug trade etc. I think if do another past game it would be around that time. But I would really love another set in the 80's.
