UPDATE --- August 20th, 2013 ---

PS3 Day One Digital pre-orders for GTAV are currently up on the North American and Latin American PSN Stores. Europe will open pre-orders on Friday the 23rd.

PSN Store page: https://store.sonyen...RANDTHEFTAUTO05

http://www.rockstarg...on-network.html

When you check out at the moment you see this:
"Please come back to the PlayStation®Store on PS3™ any time after 12:01am (PST) on September 18th, 2013 to download your game and access the in-game Atomic Blimp."

R* has confirmed that this is a typo and it will be fixed:
user posted image
Download will begin September 17th, 2013 at midnight.

Typo has been fixed and it now has the correct release date of: Midnight September 17th, 2013

Sony confirmed GTAV would be a day one digital title on PSN and it'll be up for pre-order soon. Those who pre-order GTAV from PSN will receive 75% on other R* titles (I do believe, I don't remember exactly what he said).

QUOTE
Finally putting the questions to rest, it was announced at the gamescom 2013 PlayStation Press Conference that Grand Theft Auto V will be a Day 1 Digital title on the PSN.

If you pre-order the game from the PlayStation Store (expect the pre-order to appear soon), you’ll be able to get 75% off any Rockstar title.

More proof that GTA V will more than likely be digital:

http://oi39.tinypic.com/nbdm9t.jpg
http://oi42.tinypic.com/s1szmu.jpg

One of them brings you to GameStop and the other (from the marketplace) brings you to the marketplace page of GTA V. The marketplace one is the one that says "coming soon".

This is in no way a confirmation of anything so make what you will of it but I do think it's likely.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well this is GTA V news so I figure I will post it here, mods can delete if they feel it's necessary.

While I realize the majority of you may not care there are a few people that did ask about the digital version of the game.

At the Microsoft conference this morning they said that their marketplace will include many games "including in September the biggest game, Grand Theft Auto V".

It's only logical that this also applies to PSN.

EDITED to include my post further down:

Decided to go and listen to the stream and Okin is right, they never explicitly said it's the marketplace but that was apparently the topic they were on.

They were unveiling how Xbox Live will now have 2 free games a month you can download and then the guy continued saying how speaking of games there will be hundreds of them coming to the 360 and listed a few games finishing with GTA V. Some people seem to think it's in relation to the marketplace and others think it's just in general what will be released on the console.

At the 30 minute mark.

So nothing is confirmed, it seems. It was just a case of two people mishearing/misunderstanding and me taking their word for it as I didn't catch the Microsoft conference this morning.

It can go either way but I would guess it probably would be digital because PSN has a store page for V and while it says "disc only" at the moment I have seen many games over the months that have a store page turn from "disc only" to digital.

Knew this for a while and I'm glad it got confirmed now, very possible now for me to finally pick it up day one if I don't rely on Rockstar's Warehouse shipping

While it would have been silly not to be, it's good to know that it's going to be digital from release. I just hope PSN follows suit. It seems that gaming will solely be digital in the future, hopefully the marketplace will be adequately prepared for the onslaught if many people choose to download.

I've added a '?' to the end since it's open to interpretation, but we can use this forum for things that are likely to be true as well anyway. Just put your evidence in the OP icon14.gif

Edited the OP to include the video link and so on.

It's not clear right now since they didn't explicitly say so but it was suggested since the topic at hand was the marketplace with Microsoft introducing a system similar to PS Plus where you get two free games to download a month.

Wouldn't you prefer though a physical disc? Atleast you'd be able to sell it when you are finally over GTA V... or even keep it like half a century then sell it as an antique. I still don't know why some people prefer digital over physical disc... it's not like its any cheaper.

Some people prefer digital because they don't live in an area in which they can get to a shop that sells video games easily. Sometimes it can take a good hour or so. Or they will run into trouble picking it up or receiving it on release day.

I don't see the trouble with digital being available for those that choose it. More methods of distributing the game can only mean more money because more people have access to it.

Tbh, I don't think it's going to do as anywhere near good that will be done on this gen. PS4 MP has to be paid monthly in order to use it by using PS +, and even though I've seen a cheap deal, not many people are going to do that. What Sony needs to do is make PSN free and keep PS + seperate, like the PS3 and they will see how successful they are going to be once again.

You do realize it's not about keeping you happy because you can't afford PS+, it's because if they are going to have that low price for an expensive console they have the right to at least make us pay for something to give them extra money.

And it's only been 2 days since it was shown and it's already successful even after the news of it having a subscription to play online games.

It's a placeholder, nothing has been said about the prices of the games from both sides.

If you saw it on Amazon I'm sure there's a little notice on the bottom of the game stating that.

EDIT - Just checked myself and most of them are back to 60$ USD which was the original price the past years

I know it's successful already, very successful. I'm only showing my opinion on this. Besides even though I admit the PSN + is cheap, It's something that I can never do and despise. They still could have made money is PSN was free, and still had PS + seperately. Do you know how successful they were doing that with the PS3?

No man I agree, I'm not a fan of that new idea too but I don't have a problem with it since I have PS+ on 3 of my accounts, two of which are my American accounts and secretly one based on the UK.

It could work out in the long run but we'll see.

Yeah, I definitely know without a doubt it will work for Sony. They do deserve it because they are going to give LOTS of stuff with the PS plus. We might possibly witness the birth of the ultimate next gen console. Also, I heard they are disallowing online passes now!! Great news after great news!! smile.gif

No. If you pre-ordered at Gamestop then you will get a physical disc.

Digital is only for those who will pre-order from PSN or Xbox Live Marketplace via the console itself. (Should the option be made available, of course)

"They were unveiling how Xbox Live will now have 2 free games a month you can download"

This is EXACTLY why competition is awesome. They saw how superior the free games made PS Plus, so now they're doing the same thing. Can't complain about more free games.
