Why is everyone waiting on this unproven, unprestigious group of guys to make a map?  They have no special pedigree and have no special info over anybody else.  As a matter of fact, they are just a bunch of guys (fans like us) who happened to make a youtube channel that someone started to follow, as well as several others?  So why are so many so excited about them?  They have no special information, EVER.

Nice work on their map, but it is grossly inaccurate based off of information we know.  The GTA V Forums community of mappers is eons better then what they produced in terms of accuracy.

...they've seen the game in action. They were invited to see the live demo together with IGN and a bunch of other gaming websites and magazines.

GTAForums is also an "unproven, unprestigious group of guys and no special pedigree with no special info".
...and even IF they had not seen the game in action, why not freaking let them make their map predictions aswell?

Their map predictions? They used xrcore's map that he made about a week ago.

If they saw the map why didn't they make a new one? If I saw the map for a split second the one thing I would have remembered is the shape of it. But as I said their map has exact same shape as xrcores map.

I enjoy seeing anyone's version of the map. It's obvious they have used a lot of community work, they have just got the tools and audience to demonstrate it to. I'm just glad they credited Mapping Los Santos. I made sure to credit xrCore on my post on gtav.net too so hopefully they notice individual members. A lot of it is pure speculation, the same as what we do on a daily basis, the interesting thing about this though is that they've actually seen the game, something some people would give an arm to see here right now. So when they say 'this part was in the game' 'we saw this bit' they aren't actually lying there.

Nice video. I think the sense of scale will hit home for me once I play the game as at the moment the city does seem smaller that I'd have liked.

Aw, thanks everyone. I was wondering who these guys are. Never heard of their magazine publishing before. Good to know.

I have no problem with them making a map, it just doesn't seem as accurate as others on our forums I've seen. I love looking at maps, so it is great to see more material. For example, from what we've seen, I don't think Shady Shores is the second biggest town in the region, as they seem to show.

That map makes LS look bigger somehow
But the county looks far too big and empty and

Brace for it

Pointless

All that space and does it go anywhere ? I was hoping that there was another city ( I know sf and LV won't return) that the countryside would lead to but to me personally I think I'd rather more of LS

Gonna be cool to explore though !

Their map predictions? They used xrcore's map that he made about a week ago.

If they saw the map why didn't they make a new one? If I saw the map for a split second the one thing I would have remembered is the shape of it. But as I said their map has exact same shape as xrcores map.

They took inspiration and used part of the layout from his map, yes, but they didn't copy it straight of, also the general layout of that map should be fairly close to the real deal, so it's not "his" map... the level designers at Rockstar North made the map. What are you guys going to do when the game comes out... say that Rockstar North just copied your fan made maps, and that yours are better? Lol.

Look at them again. The Alamo Sea layout isn't identical, and neither is the entire outskirts of the map. Sure some of the roads are very similiar, but who gives. There's not enough screens from out in the countryside to map the roads and towns there perfectly. If someone makes a good layout that fits with the overall assumption of the area And it looks like what they saw when they viewed the live demo of the game, it's better to use it.

They credited everybody in the GTAForums mapping thread. If anybody else would've made a reply in that thread and change or make a map similiar to "xrcore's map" would you still have said that they ripped his map of? Knowing theese forums alot of guys problably would have, lol.

Wait, wait, wait... THAT'S the map?... It's so... wait. Wait a f*cking minute. I was one of the many who believed Rockstar when they said it's a massive map, and that thought the people who said it was going to be small where assholes.

And now... THAT'S the map? It's all Los Santos and the rest green areas with two crappy towns and the rest are roads... I mean, what the f*ck?

Is this the FINAL version or is it just based on the screenshots and speculation?

to be clear:
(as i wasn't first time around)

i should have been clearer and written that i didn't expect cvg to have any real info/insight into the map and expected everything outside of los santos proper to be educated guesswork and that people shouldn't denigrate their work as while there are journalists and they have seen the game, they're just fans trying to do the best they can with limited resources and information.

How about you read some posts or watch a bit of the video before come blazing in with questions and dislikes, lol.

Just like every map made and posted in the Mapping Los Santos thread it's an assumption, using clues from the screenshots and trailers, aswell as what they saw with their own eyes when they viewed the live demo of the game.

I'd also like to quote myself from earlier in this thread:

QUOTE ('Me')

Don't take all of theese comprarisons so literally, man. Also, squares isn't a very good way to comprare sizes.

Area-wise if you took the entire image of the Red Dead Redemption map, there was alot of spaces around the edge of the map that you couldn't get to.
When Rockstar has comprared the size of the map they're talking about the area of it... the playable spaces.

When they said that GTA V will be about as big as San Andreas, GTA IV and Red Dead combined, they're not talking about laying the maps on top of eachother and that they all fit into the GTA V map. They're talking about the general feel and like i said the playable areas. In the original GI article where that comprarison was made they noted that interiors etc. was taken into account when making that comprarison. That's something alot of you here don't seem to get.

The map will still be really big when you get into it, but i think alot of you guys need to lower your expectations a bit.

/Your friendly neighbourhood whatever. smile.gif

i'd just about got the point now of thinking "ok so Los Santos isn't as big as i would have liked but at least we have huge swathes of desert and mountains to explore."

some of these maps make me worry we aren't getting enough countryside either!

Yeah, I know. It's just that I saw the map first and, freaked out and I just had to write something. But I'd really like the mao to be at least a little bit bigger than that.

The mountains look perfect but the Desert is WAY way wayyyyy too small. And the map in it self looks like its missing like...another map that's suppose to be where the ocean is. There is no way the ocean is that close to the Desert. There is no way.

Good Point about the distance between ocean and desert. This map has several errors.

Wow, they did a decent job assuming the locations are based on informed guesses. Brilliant map. I'll have to wait to watch the video, though. Damn, that's a lot of countryside.

Looks like there is at least three decent sized towns. I'm guessing this is all from memory? I would've sent a journalist with a photographic memory, has excellent artistic ability & an interest in cartography.

As it has been said by others a few times here, scale is what matters most. And we don't know the true scale of the map, so there's no way to compare it to LC for example. This current Los Santos in this map doesn't look nowhere near as big as LC, but without a true scale, we can't know for sure.

For some reason, a lot of people seem to think that the edge of the map has a highway following every curve of it. I must say that I don't quite get it. confused.gif
