Is there any way to make the nights in SA darker, aside from turning the brightness setting all the way down? I'm guessing it would involve editing the weather.dat file, but i'm not sure and I wouldn't know what to do as well. Any help on this subject would be appreciated.

weather.dat doesn't exist, i assume you mean timecyc.dat
try fastmans92's In-game timecyc editor

This.

I was going to suggest editing the Timecyc.dat.

Ryosuke839's Colormod is also an option.

You could try SweetFX as well; their fake HDR & LiftGammaGain will add both emulated sunlight during the day and make the nights darker as well.

Works pretty well.

I'm currently working on a timecyc with realistic weather. Nights in areas like the forest and the desert will be a lot darker and so will alleyways and other places without light.
