Personally I loved the DLC for GTA IV and it's probably the best instance of DLC I've seen. How do you think they'll handle it for GTAV?

I personally really liked the new character DLC, but seeing as we already have 3 protagonists now do you think they'd still do that or add more to the main story?

PS If this has already been talked to death or it's too early to talk about DLC on the forums please feel free to lock the thread. Also I can't search DLC and nothing really came up with Downloadable Content so if there is a topic about this already a link would be awesome, thanks.

It might just be a rumor, but I heard that R* might not make DLCs on the scale of GTA IV's DLCs any more. That makes me sad since it's very likely that GTA V will have DLCs, but I hope it isn't all of this "season pass" and "map pack" bullsh*t for multiplayer. I lost a bit of faith in R* when they did that with Max Payne 3. Also, we shouldn't have to pay extra to do single-player activities in multiplayer like we had to with Red Dead Redemption.

Gun packs, map packs, you name it. It was a shame to see R* go in that direction (as everyone else has) with MP3.

R* to me were one of the firsts to do DLC right, if they start regressing to what the other rable are doing that would be upsetting. RDR at least had Undead Nightmare which was kind of like GTA IV's DLC and I never got into Max Payne so I didn't buy MP3.

It would be pretty insane if the DLC was adding the other cities that people wanted in the game. I can imagine Las Venturas and the whole gambling/casino scene would be a pretty good basis for DLC. If the map couldn't handle it, why not be able to fly a plane to a different island or something?

In a perfect world, it would be like IVs and it would sell better now that DLC and digital download is more popular. They can charge 40 bucks an expansion for GTA IV quality content and I'd be happy. Like expansion packs but for console gaming. These cities Rockstar creates are too dense and immersing to only host a just single story. So many possoblities are to be had story telling wise. I think it'd be cool to have PC like expansion packs on console gaming.

I'd love if LV was added with DLC, in SA it was a tad underwhelming but if they created it from scratch and had a whole DLC devoted to it that would be awesome. I wouldn't mind if they did San Fierro either or hell a new city altogether just to see R* try something like that.

I agree. Red Dead Redemption's DLC is actually pretty decent (Undead Nightmare is great), but it did irk me when gambling games were made available to multiplayer through multiplayer. Like it didn't come across the minds of the hundreds of R* employees and associates that people would like to play card and dice games with their friends. . .

Otherwise, that game is great! As for Max Payne 3, it's pretty darn good for a linear game, but the DLC is really a waste of money (unless you download the two free ones). Very disappointing indeed.

Now, I do have an idea for GTA V DLC if R* wants to make BIG one. I was thinking of something along the lines of a DLC that follows almost solely one of the Los Santos gangs. It would also feature the "multiple protagonist" idea, but it would consist of "family" instead of misfits (like in the vanilla game, not that there's anything wrong with "misfits" since there isn't anything wrong with it). However, instead of having only three characters, you'll get the choice of arranging your character wheel with the choices of something like ten or a dozen members of the gang (each one will be an important and major character, not just some random thug) via a whiteboard or some sh*t. Each one will obviously have their own skills, perks, and abilities. However, none of the characters alone will be as "God like" as Michael, Franklin, or Trevor. So, you'd probably have to build your three-person team depending on the difficulties that will be faced during the next mission. It would kind of add even more of an RPG element into the game.

It would be cool if the DLC were new stories/missions for the protagonist.

Exactly, it would be awesome. Heists on casinos would be pretty fun. San Fierro could be another DLC by itself. Or maybe they could add an option to go to the airport and fly to Liberty City? I don't see how hard it could be to just use the same map from GTA IV.

"DLC" is an understatement for GTA IV's DLC. It's best to be called "episodic content" or "expansion packs". We're obviously talking about "The Lost and Damned" and "The Ballad of Gay Tony". They are also available on disc (either GTA EFLC or GTA IV: The Complete Edition).

I have a good hypothetical question that relates to this thread. If Rockstar added the ability to fly to IV's Liberty City as DLC with a few slight upgrades to the city, how much would you pay for it? It would be more or less the same place but with a few variations based on the new features in V and the fact that the city would be seen as it is in 2013 instead of 2008.

What if they didn't even do any DLC's? They just went on to next gen projects? Probably not likely but you never know.

The business problem with GTA IV's DLC was it was so massive, it took too long to make after the game was out: 18 months for both episodes, and even longer for platforms other than Xbox 360 which had the exclusive (though the exclusive helped pay for it being so massive).

Undead Nightmare was about half the length, half the price, and came out much sooner. L.A. Noire, being a single-player game only, gave Rockstar another chance to see if people wanted to pay for more story. The lack of any single-player DLC for Max Payne 3 suggests Rockstar has found multiplayer DLC to be more successful.

I think if they were to do that they'd just make it DLC for IV and have you switch out your disk. If they added a story and missions to go along with it perhaps with new vehicles and planes I would probably pay around the price of LaD and BoGT when those were released more depending on how much content they add to it.

I doubt they'd do that though unless they updated the city a bit graphically to fit the new characters going there plus the complete edition is already out for GTA IV so it'd be odd to have the DLC be released for it unless they also put it out on disk.

It'd be nice to have a GTA that allowed you to travel to all of GTAs main cities.

I don't think they are going to do DLC at all with this game.

I remember reading that they planned to do DLC, but it's not their focus at the moment (for obvious reasons).

Why would the make DLC for IV that lets you travel to Liberty City? I don't think I understand your point. The idea is that it adds to V's already massive playground, and you would be able to fly planes and do all the other awesome stuff from V in a already super-detailed city that Rockstar had previously created. As seen in the ENB mod, the textures in IV are good enough to look amazing and V's updated graphics could probably carry over to this DLC as well.

I really hope we can dress Trevor up like a member of the Lost or the AOD. Maybe like the Bollard Gang or Treasure Hunters outfits in RDR that make that particular story gang go easier on you.

I didn't mean they'd make a DLC that let's you travel to LC in GTA IV. It would be DLC for IV that has the protags from V with new goodies because it would be simpler than to to recreate the entire city as DLC and update it with their current graphics. I mean it would be awesome to have the entirety of LC in V, but that would probably cost a pretty penny and I don't think people would pay a whole lot more when they already have LC on their IV disk. Hence making the protags and updates to the existing IV and load it up like BoGT or LaD.

I hope they dont do DLC like in GTA 4. I didn't really like it. What I hope they do is add extra missions for the 3 protags, add guns, vehicles, etc.

Once again Magic Al pops in and instantly talks sense.

The other thing that Rockstar said about large IV-type DLC episodes, is that while they liked them, the cost of developing them meant they found it difficult to hit the price point they wanted to meet. And that was WITH Microsoft subsidizing their development with their 50m exclusivity deal.

R* said when people asked them about multiple cities that it wouldn't really fit into gta v so I guess that's that idea out the window
But I did see an answer from rockstar quite some time ago from a q&a session stating that they had some very big ideas planned for gta v and that DLCs where already under development (if I can find this again ill post it up)

Flashbacks!

What did the 3 protags do before gtav? It could go back a few months or even years... Like Michael in his 20s lol (or would that be too big for dlc?)
