"Powerful explosions struck the outskirts of Damascus early on Sunday, sending columns of fire into the night sky, and Syrian state television said Israeli rockets had struck a military facility just north of the capital.

A senior official told NBC News Israeli jets bombed a military research facility north of Damascus early Sunday.

Israel declined to comment on the attack, but the blasts occurred a day after an Israeli official said his country had carried out an airstrike targeting a consignment of missiles in Syria intended for the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah.

One of the sites hit on Sunday, the Jamraya military research center, was also targeted by Israel in January.

"The new Israeli attack is an attempt to raise the morale of the terrorist groups which have been reeling from strikes by our noble army," Syrian television said, referring to recent offensives by President Bashar Assad's forces against rebels.

No doubt they will say they targeted the area because they located Hezbollah/Iranians missiles there. which is utter bullsh*t.

Why is the US on Israel's leash? What's in it for them?

Oh, I noticed that people of the US do not care about anything that happens outside their borders, But in turn, Expect the world to care when sh*t happens to them.

Thought this was obvious enough that I wouldn't have to explain. Oh well. tounge.gif

Israel may have a long running feud with Hezbollah, who support Assad, but Assad's opponents in Syria are now made up largely of foreign jihadists. They may end up with a worse neighbour on their border if Assad falls. Considering the power and support Assad has in Syria, getting rid of him would leave Syria looking like an Afghanistan on the mediterranean. This is why I think the US are reluctant to support the rebels.

I don't get all the cynicism and "hate", if you will, Israel gets. It's a great country that contributes a great deal to the Western world and the world in total. We should be glad we have Israel.

I wonder if Hassan Nasrallah will get involved, if Syria strikes back Israel to settle their score with them?

I really find it hard to speculate what's gonna happen next but I'm pretty sure that this would take a serious turn.

Melchior hasn't shown himself as a friend of Israel until today. This and other statements of him make me think that he actually believes in what he said.

Edit: Checked his profile, he signed in about an hour ago.

Is Syria on good terms with the Iranian government? I know for sure that Assad's regime has a long support for Hezbollah extremists but not going so far as Iran putting a missile base on their own border.

Yes Syria and Iran are allies. im not saying there is missiles, its just what the media will most likely claim. the attack was for a completely different motive.

What out with what you write. I wrote that a few months ago and I got a warning from a mod, 7 hate messages and 2 people said they were going to hack my account, etc.
Of course I didn't care, but you might like to know that.

Ontopic:
Israel can bomb Assad's army as much as he wants from me, as long as school, mosques/churches, hospitals,... are safe.

As do I. Seriously splitting that region between Palestine and Israel is peaceful way forward. However Israel then goes and builds settlements in the Palestinian areas, they are slowly trying to take it over and nobody is stopping them. Israel are just pushing their luck, I seriously hope the whole of the western world stops supporting that.

That explains it very well that Hezbollah sometimes uses Syrian border as a means to either project their attack on Israel or either retreat from Israeli border.

Surprisingly enough, I agree. Israel has not shown responsibility as a Western power and often provokes the rest of the Arab world with their military superiority. The Israeli threats is what causes them to be hated by all Arab nations (well, that and the fact they took their lands...) But the US has to stop backing Israel and take a mediator role in this issue, but I'm sure American media will not like that. icon13.gif
