So, we've all heard the news, GTA V map is 3.5 times bigger than RDR and 5 times including made seabed (procedural will probably go on forever like before). And it's also ''bigger than SA, IV and RDR combined.

Now as a man who doesn't own a console I don't know how big is RDR, but it's obviously bigger than SA map from what I've read.

But the question here is, and I want normal discussion not a fanboy war against JC2, how will this map compare to JC2's map. That one, if you've played the game, is also HUGE. You can take a plane and travel a loooooong time before you reach the other end of the map.

Let's leave aside anything regarding detail and stuff, we're not talking which one is better here, only the size of the map. From what is said, it seems V might have a bigger map.

JC 2 is definitely bigger.
RDR map was pretty small, I think around the size of LC? I could be wrong though.

JC2 was huge, but it lacked the feeling of it being a living breathing area.

JC2 was a country, V is a city.

JC2's is obviously much bigger. But that doesn't mean that it's more fun to explore. Too much empty space, still a beautiful game though.

hhahahahahha, you are such a good troll.

Seriously, Just Cause's map was big but had NO depth, a city of 5 by 5 metres and it was just such a boring map. It doesnt matter how big V's map is compared to it because it's already obviously better in quality from what we've seen in the screens and trailers.

Wow.. is JC2 really that big? I have it installed and as I mentioned I take a plane and fly in it forever to get to a city, but I couldn't imagine it being 20 times bigger than what is expected of V to be.

No. JC2 is literally twenty times the size of GTAV.

Please don't make this into a war of who is better. As I stated in the original post, it's about the size here. We all know GTA is much more detailed and made with purpose, while JC2's map i and endless jungle with repetitive small villages scattered around. There's no debate there.

What trolling did he do there? I fail to see it.

The OP wanted numbers, and GKP is right with them.

GTAV is, at the very minimum, around 15sq.miles of landmass; 36 at the most.

Readin about SA map, it says it's about 14 SQ miles. Still, I guess RDR, IV and SA combines should amount to at least 35-40 SQ miles. Either they're not, or they're marketing it as bigger than it really is.

Stop.

JC2 is not 400sq miles.

Show me proof. (Not the "map size comparison" image. it's wrong.)

How the f*ck do you measure lenght/distance ingame? Sorry, I seriously don't know.
This whole map size comparing is ridiculous. I mean, JC 2 has a lot of water, which is even more boring than the jungle.

No trolling - this is a fact. I actually remember watching a JC2 dev diary before it came out and hearing him say that the map was over 1000sq kilometers.

While JC2's alleged map size of 400 square miles always sounded exaggerated to me, there is no way that V (at roughly 20-25 square miles of landmass) could possibly be bigger.

Just Cause 2 is approx 400 square miles of gameplay area counting land and ocean floor. It's pretty damn sparse but it's all there.

A rough calculation of V's size from Rockstar's own mouth is 3.5x RDR for it's land area and 5x RDR with ocean floors included. RDR has roughly 6-7 miles of actual playable area so can assume V's map will be about 20-24 square miles of land.

And that common sense is wrong! W-R-O-N-G, can you spell it, or do I have to bring Tammy Wynette?
As you can see, the thing developers gave us is wrong. JC 2 is a perfect example of it. Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall is 62,000 km2?
Jesus. And you complain that 400 km2 is big? The numbers are so unrealistic, I can't believe it.

You need to look up the definition of scale.

You're making no sense at all. You ask where we obtain the figures. I answer you.

Whether it's inaccurate or not in your opinion or judgement of realism is irrelevant. Hope you're not getting lost here.

OT: As I said before, GTA V will be smaller than JC 2.

Just cause 2 was about 5% buildings and actual scenery and 95% copypasted land, sea, islands. GTA V will be full to the brim of unique scenery and even if the landed is copypasted it doesn't look so obvious, in JC2 it's literally this same little pattern over and over again for about half the map, in GTA V R* actually make it look decent.

Just Cause 2, of course. GTA V's map will be way more varied, detailed, lively and overall just better, though.
