Hi, I'm sorry if this is not the indicated forum space to ask this, but I thought you guys could help me.

What does cap mean?
"Capping the party's campaign for the May 5 Assembly polls in which Congress is hoping to return to power after a over eight year gap, Gandhi also sought details from the BJP Government regarding Rs88,000 crore given to it for implementing centrally-sponsored development programmes."
I don't understand what "capped" means. I searched the word in the dictionaries, but I don't understand its meaning. Can anyone explain it to me in a simplified way? Thanks in advance.

I suppose in that context it means ending.

Note: I mean "ending" as a verb (action).
