Oh no not Slayer! I still listen to their music what a loss.

It's always the good groups we actually lose because of the drugs they used.

It says he got liver failure, so it was probably from all the drinking.

and 49, he was fairly young. Sucks... RIP

It was from complications of a disease he contracted from a spider bite a few years ago.

This is pretty shocking considering every one said he was doing well and it looked like he was going to join the band in the studio for another record. Hanneman's passing should be the final nail in the coffin for Slayer, but unfortunately I don't think that's going to happen.

Rot well.

Don't worry, Lucifer has a job for him as Hell's minstrel.

This dude, along with King made the hardest most testosterone fueled guitar riffs this world may ever see. I used to listen to a lot of Slayer before playing hockey. When you have 'Jesus Saves' in your head on a rink, you skate and hit harder. It's just a fact.

Just saw him on TV not too long ago for a music festival, little did he know what was coming.

I'm a big fan of Slayer, sad to see one of the big ones leave us.

Or "War Zone" Or "Here Comes the Pain".

f*ck it.

Every song makes me play harder.

On the flip side, he's going to be melting the Angel of Death's face off with his playing in hell \m/

Yeah, I guess he's going South of Heaven...

In a way, I hope this is the final nail to the coffin from a recording standpoint, because I'm not sure what the next Slayer record would be both lyrically and melodically without Hanneman. They had a good run.

When I heard this earlier today, I was absolutely shocked. Jeff is an amazing guitarist, and will never be forgotten.

I used to listen to this band constantly. Extremely unfortunate. Slayer was the second metal band (after Iron Maiden) that I spent a lot of time listening to, really shocking that he's gone.

Jeff's guitar playing is simply EXTREME. Take a listen to Raining Blood or Chemical Warfare, and you'll see what I mean.

So what's the disease he had?

"Hanneman contracted necrotising fasciitis, a flesh-eating disease, from a spider bite about 2 years ago. It resulted in liver failure."
