I like lurking. Posting would be nice too, but it's a slow, grueling process.

I'll welcome any new or returning writers with open arms.

It's been a while (my memory is jogged though not 100% why!). Still keeping the home fires burning here, fitting around home life
How you been?

It's been rather bleak really, lots of tradgedy and misery but I reckon getting back into writer mode will help to block most of it out. I see City of Lies has a sequel now, I'll be sliding in there in the morning most likely :)

I'm looking to rewrite my old project with Nathan and Loren and all that, been working on a sequel moviescript tonight too and ended up writing quite a lot more than I planned lol

Congrats and well done to Saintsrow, Carbonox and Albanyave for their gold, silver and bronze award medals. Keep up the good and hard work to you guys and everyone else who managed to get their stuff into the awards; your contributions keep this section alive. I'll have to up my game for COL2 for next year! Haha.

On the subject of awards, anyone know why Most Talented Writer was renamed Most Creative in Writing this year? The new name comes across a lot more ambiguous IMO. :p

I think it was because there was a slight change in format to the awards. You have most creative in writing, graphics etc iirc.

I don't think it's more ambiguous TBH. In fact I think it's too specific - I prefer best writer because for me at least, the best writer is one who writes good stuff and contributes to this section and listens to feed back, most creative to me sounds like flat out who wrote the best story.

But I think everyone on this section would be relatively happy with the medal winners. So despite the award name, big well done to all, not for the medals but for the hard work you've all put in

I actually think ambiguous wasn't a good word to use... more like specific. Most creative doesn't sound as inclusive, so to speak, as most talented or plain best writer. :p

Also, could you drink something cheaper next time?

Demonetisation, so no cash and I have to foot the bill.

I've been reading Tyla's "GTA: Liberty City 1978" concept thread and now I'm wanting to write a Vampire: The Masquerade fanfiction set in either 1970's New York City or Richmond, Virginia of the same era. The capital of my home state is rather infamous for its violent crime and corruption even today, and in the 1970's, Richmond was like NYC writ small. (Richmond in the 1970's was The Dirty South long before that term was coined to describe present-day Atlanta and Memphis) and I think I will get to writing on it soon!

This would be a story emphasizing the filth, sleaze, poverty, hedonistic excess, rampant violence, hardship, and overall sadistic misery of urban life in the 1970's.

Most works seem to be set in New York. It'd be nice to see something glamourising a different place. Show a romanticised novelisation of a new city, a different culture. something different

Yeah, Richmond VA would be new ground for GTA readers.

It's similar to how every Marvel Comics galactic-scale maga-villain for the past 50 years comes straight to NYC, right in front of the Fantatic Four's HQ skyscraper, to start destroying the Earth.

Just as a concrete example (out of the blue) of how similar themes can be translated to a different setting and culture, you might look at the recent movie "Hell or High Water," where they almost mix old west themes with modern corruption, crime, and cynicism, kind of like GTAV tried to do.
