Comparing the maps by drawing lines on pictures taken in completely different circumstances...doesn't that remind you of a certain user that used to be around here lol.gif

3 times NOT including underwater. 5 times when including underwater

You are both right if you meant 3 times RDR. As far as I recall three comparisons were made by Rockstar, 3 times RDR, 5 times RDR and RDR + GTA 4 + GTA SA.

Based on GTAaLEX' and Magic Al's calculations LS is bigger. They both got to pretty much the same conclusion through different methods.

One more attempt at reason and logic before this thread falls to the trolls:

QUOTE (Magic_Al @ Wednesday, Jul 17 2013, 05:52)
Back on page 320, F4t4l1ty measured the GTAIV tennis court to be the same size as a real tennis court, and [enforcA] posted diagrams that made it look very likely the tennis court is also the correct size in GTAV. Seems more likely to be consistent than cars.

Using the tennis court for scale makes the widest top-down GTAV screenshot equal 1600 meters per 1280 pixels, which is this scale:

Al's scale is almost exactly the same size as the scale that Deff obtained by comparing cars:

user posted image

and it also works very well with my method of comparing highways:

Al's scale leads to this:

Which in turn leads to this:

@Sept17th2013 You have to prove your scale, with the correct math and scaling method behind it of course.

Exactly.

What also should be taken into account is that Los Santos extends further east than one would think by looking at the blueprint map. The "winglike" looking building on the right is still Los Santos considering that building is based on the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.

I'm seeing some awful Liberty City/Los Santos size comparisons here, Billy the Kid's in particular.
Just look at how big the blocks in this game are

It all looks small on the blueprint but it is actually very big even from the air. Imagine how large Los Santos will feel at ground level.
Some of you guys just don't know how big Los Santos actually is.

That would be the same case scenario as of GTA IV.

It has been said numerous times, I think a lot of people aren't putting into consideration that we have a fully explorable detailed UNDERWATER area now. I am still certain the map will be gigantic and enormous like SA is.

Who the hell mentioned underwater? suicidal.gif We're talking about the size of Los Santos compared to Liberty City.

Sorry, but you must be a troll. You can't be serious.

You're pretty much comparing the draw distance instead of the size.

That comparision is completly wrong, according to him, the distance between 2 skyscrapers in Algonquin is the same as LS from north to south, can't be serious.

Congrats, you are the 8000th poster in this thread.

I'd be fine with LS being slightly larger or even the same size of LC. All I know is the entire map is far bigger than any GTA game out there, and that alone makes me happy.

Allow me to post an accurate scale of the map made by my friend GTAaLEX117 to all of those who are confused...

This seems extremely accurate and believable considering they probably took the mapped underwater world into consideration when they said it was bigger than those 3 combined. I'm still stunned at how big this world will be no matter what the pessimists and nay-sayers on this forum tell me.

I made this one actually, and in fact all the land area of SA, IV, and RDR (excluding RDR's out-of-bounds terrain) do fit inside V's land area on this map. If you can use the histogram in Photoshop or similar software you can trace the shapes and get pixel counts to confirm that. Rockstar's "promise" is fulfilled without considering interiors, underground, or underwater, though you might have to include the Alamo Sea underwater which I didn't try to show on the map.
