Made a comparison gif.

I see literally no difference in scale.

And what exactly is that supposed to prove? Here's an idea, make a scale after that, and then see if the highway widths match.

Or...this might sound crazy, compare the maps based on the tennis courts. Crazy idea, right?

Allow me to spare you the effort:

Back on page 320, F4t4l1ty measured the GTAIV tennis court to be the same size as a real tennis court, and [enforcA] posted diagrams that made it look very likely the tennis court is also the correct size in GTAV. Seems more likely to be consistent than cars.

Using the tennis court for scale makes the widest top-down GTAV screenshot equal 1600 meters per 1280 pixels, which is this scale:

I literally was at that page, was about to post it... suicidal.gif

EDIT:

Found this a few pages and editied it, gtaxpert was wrong, the car is clearly slanted from that angle. This would be a great length to compare with a car, same thing.

After combing through this thread again, I found another scale that proves Al's scale is correct. I almost forgot about this:

Since the "los santos size" thread is spammed with offtopic nonsense, i'll post it here by quoting:
QUOTE
After using these things:

I came up with this scale (lower left of the picture/map, white lines = based on the Audi A4, red lines = based on the Audi A8 ):
user posted image
(map by gorgeprofondegta4)
Keep in mind, it's based on car size, low resolution, .. etc. .., so it's a very rough estimate of the scale. (ps.: all work/calculations done in 3d space)

A small update to my previous post:
The green lines show the scale with an Audi A6 used as basis for the calculations, instead of the smaller A4 or the larger A8.
user posted image
It shows, that the green line (1 mile in length) fits to the dotted grid (horizontal grid, vertical grid space is smaller) of the blueprint map. This makes sense since the U.S. doesn't use the metric system (generally spoken) and distances ingame (gameplay trailer) were shown in imperial units too.
user posted image
To check/verify if these calculations are close to "correct", there are at least 2 options: 1 being the tennis scene (if there is a way to messure the tennis field size correctly), 2 being the golf scene with the "168/169 yards to pin" stats and the map in the lower left corner

Any idea on the square mileage of what's on the blueprint?

Nice work. I compared the golf course to your calculations and they seem to be very close.
Hole 5 on the Golf course is 435 yards (which is about 398 meters or 0.25 miles).
user posted image
And from the gameplay trailer you can see the shape of hole 5 here
user posted image
So the golf course is almost exactly twice in length as hole 5, which leads to the conclusion that this stretch on the blueprint map is about 800 meters or 0.5 miles.

I'll try to find Deff's original car method scale.

Nope, that's his old scaling method. He corrected it after that.

Does it appear then that the runway lengths are longer in V ?...they were 750m in IV. Look more like 1k in length now.

They definitely seem a bit longer now.

@Kindled You didn't find the right person though, even GKP was convinced a while ago that these scales were accurate.

Good to see this thread is still going, sort of. Didn't someone say a few pages back that the Tennis courts in IV are different sizes in some areas? If so, how does the smallest and largest courts change the comparison estimates? Also, it should be said again that the runway lengths were all different in San Andreas, so they are not a reliable measuring stick.

The tennis courts are presumably the same size.

Well, it's very easy to look at the highway widths as well when comparing the tennis courts, and they seem to be the same general size.

This method also gives you the same result as comparing car widths, so Al probably chose the correct tennis field (that's the same size as the one in V). I don't even remember how big the difference between the IV courts were though, I don't think Taco ever specified.

Also, nobody compared runway -length-, GKP just suggested the size of them (probably based on the result shown in this thread.

Well, I've changed my mind. confused.gif I know that most people might have seen me post in this thread and see my posts on why I don't think LS is that big.

But after watching the ads, I can say that I am proved wrong. smile.gif

LS till isn't that much bigger than Liberty City, though. Perhaps a little bit bigger, or just similar.

Doesn't really need to be much bigger. Making the map too big will make it a chore to work through, as well as taking up even more memory. The addition of the countryside and underwater exploration makes up for Los Santos only being slightly larger.

Not all highways in New York are like that, that's what you need to understand.

NYC and LA are about the same size in terms of land mass.

This is what you get for not reading the thread.

I already did such an analysis a few months ago.

And this one is done on Deff's car model method, just to show that his scaling is accurate.

LS is roughly the same size as LC without the water between the islands. It's massive, nevertheless.
