| I think it has made me an overall better person. Since I got involved I've stopped being judgemental, arrogant, and selfish. |
anyone who needs religion in order to be a nice person is a sad human being.
if you need to believe in god in order to stop being a judgmental arrogant prick, then you're kind of a sh*tty person to begin with.
you should be able to figure those things out on your own.
1. I don't need religion to be a nice person.
2. Believing in God and following and understanding the points of christianity has made me an overall better person, but that doesn't mean I was a bad person when I wasn't committed to God.
Why do you seem to dislike catholicism so much? I've found something that genuinely makes me happy and I'm comfortable with. I engage in meditation and have found myself more relaxed and mellow since I started learning about Him. That's all.
I've grown up through a Catholic school most of my academic career. I found it quite astonishing, in a school assembly one morning, when the teacher asserted to the pupils and I quote "Those that do not believe in God are stupid". Now, the thing is, I don't really want to believe in the God even if he were to be real. I wouldn't want such an entity to exist, a totalitarian, judgemental, misogynistic, dictating, genocidal, homophobic creator.
Whilst I keep relatively quiet on the subject when people discuss their beliefs, I question how much they really know about it and how much they cherry pick. Even the Catholic Church, the apex of objective morality, seems to u-turn. The Pope, who is has the facet of papal infallibility has turned around said that "condoms can save lives". Amazing. Brilliant. But why on earth would a god, who is the creator of vast amounts of space, creator of time, collapsing galaxies, super-novas, colossal phenomena and energy be considered if you were to wrap rubber around your penis or any other methods of contraception? I ask in the Old Testament, why is a god who declares himself as all-loving murder his own children? Why does he murder every Egyptian boy in favour of his "select people" to give them their living space, their promised land?
I know you don't have any theological explanation to these questions, you'll most likely say that it is free-will but remember who created the concept of free-will and remember who created the very genetic make-up, the flawed human nature which has seen, for the most part, misery since its creation. Remember, this is all in "God's image" and what does that tell you about God's image?
Now, I'm completely indifferent and could not care less about your spiritual attachment with god and good for you. However, I do question, why associate yourself with an organization which has had such a dark bearing on history?
