Despite the huge map and the incredible amount of detail, the draw distance is very good. It was confirmed that we can look from one end of the map to the other end and that is truly impressive.

How, when, where and by who was this confirmed?

I don't know if they said that, but they did say that the draw distance had been improved by several miles.

I never said that. I don't appreciate people making fake quotes to look like I said some nonsense.

Now that's interesting. Was it a slip of the tongue? WHY would I change your quote? You edited your post later on, maybe because you realized you couldn't back up what you said. I would just have loved to see a source on this as it sounded amazing, too good to be true etc.

Low though, low

I said "Despite the huge map and the incredible amount of detail, the draw distance is very good. It was confirmed that we can look from one end of the map to the other end and that is truly impressive.", not deffpony. I am certain that I have read that somewhere but I can't remember which preview it was. I'll search for it though.

It was Carl who said that lol not me.

And I know that there was a statement about new means of draw distance making it possible to see things from the other end of the map but I wouldn't count on that being completely accurate until we have the game in hand

I have found it:
QUOTE (http://www.videogame...tar_engine.html)
The engine now allows for a much greater draw distance over previous GTAs, letting Rockstar "render the most distant mountains at the other end of the world many, many miles away", with further advances made to the lighting and shader model.

yeah that sounds promising really. I expect something like this: you can look far into the distance there. would be awesome if that was fo real ingame. The immersion would be crazy ill if you could always see mountains in the distance or huge skyscrapers. YOu'd feel like an ant, it would be mindblowing.

Yea, but I think we should expect to merely see vague silhouettes in the distance.

The draw distance is obviously alot better than IV

Screen 1: I wonder what that is at the very edge of the draw distance, past the bridge... looks like a hill or something.

Screen 2: This is one of my favorite screenshots. I really love all of the ground level shots I see. You feel lost and infintesimally small, especially when you consider that you can't even see any mountains here.

Screen 1: I really love the California feel in this shot. But Ill be honest the size of the city concerns me. Im still trying to figure out where the grove would be. Where are the suburbs. I dont mind that downtown isnt that dense, but I havent gotten the impression that LS is a sprawling city

Screen 2: I cant wait to ride bikes in multiplayer free roam. The clouds look great once again

I think I may just be across the storm drain so will just lead to another part of the city.

Screen 1: I'm really curious what Mike and Frank are talking about here, also why they decided to meet at Griffith...time will tell.

Screen 2: Awesome. This is how I expect the game to look when playing it. It almost looks like R* just dropped the HUD, and pressed the right stick slightly to the left and took a screenie. This game is going to look so good with the HUD turned off.

To document the movements of certain individuals in a building from the binoculars, preperation?

It's an easily accessible, yet out of the way location, perfect for a criminal rendezvous.

It will be good for that location to be featured, even in just one mission, it was sorely underused in SA.

Definitely. The engine has been vastly improved obviously, and that's the reason why the draw distance is much better in GTA V than it was in GTA IV, but there's still a limit. We will be probably able to look from one end of the map to the other end but everything that is far in the distance will be only roughly displayed. But that's very good as this is the console version we're talking about.

Los Santos doesn't look that small from here but the fog in the distance, especially on the right side of the screenshot, is dense. It's like Rockstar tries to hide something. If the city is bigger than Liberty City then I'm curious how much bigger exactly and how much time it will take to drive from one end of the city to the other end.

The sky looks nice, definitely better than in GTA IV, and it looks very realistic. I'm looking forward to riding the bicycle, that will surely provide many hours of fun!

*Drum roll please* Apparently he had Noclue_42 of what he was doing

The 1st screenshot is obviously taken at the Los Santos version of the Griffith Observatory, and the draw distance is pretty amazing considering the PS3/X360's hardware. As for the 2nd, yet another picture from the "Michael's strut" album [I'm pretty sure the bike's not moving] of what's supposed to be at the Rockford Hills area I believe?

It looks like Downtown Los Santos is closer to the beach than its counter part Downtown Los Angeles.

I wonder how South Los Santos will look. They havent even shared the hood side of the story yet.

It seems to me kinda like the real haze that covers LA. looking across the city itself should limit draw distance a little.
Now if your towards the mountains/country side or whatever I'd expect to see further.
