OST = Original Soundtrack

So unfortunately GTA IV doesn't count because the soundtrack is not an original production.

My favourite soundtracks are probably

Assassins Creed
Red Dead Redemption
Portal 2 (Best one)

Your thoughts?

Loony Toons Sheep Raider (Sheep Dog N' Wolf)

It's such an amazing combination of different sounds that add to the ambiance and make levels seem more real.

This one is my favorite:

Then there's...

This game was excellent I loved it and still do.

Definitely one of my favorites. Great to listen to at the end of a long day if you can't fall asleep.

Tracks 1, 2, and 5 especially.

Oh lawdy lawd. Such nostalgia is overwhelming. This game probably had one of the most memorable soundtracks of any game I've played. ph34r.gif ph34r.gif

Red Dead Redemption, Streets Of Rage 2, Sonic The Hedgehog and Street Fighter II. Streets Of Rage II's soundtrack still holds up as probably the best in my opinion, though Red Dead comes very close. Trust me and buy the SORII soundtrack on itunes. Just as an album it's excellent.

Skyrim without hesitation. Some of the most beautiful music I ever heard - never mind in a video game - and 25% of the reason I play it.

You get about 2 hours of original music, and what music plays is dependent on time of day, location and what you are doing - from stirring dragon battle music to pastoral tranquility to soaring epics when you climb a mountain the music always fits what you are doing which is genius in an open world game.

...and here's an upload of my own gameplay that I feel demonstrates how it mixes into the action that's taking place.

I never asked for this

Oh man, Michael McCann is such a good producer. I think Icarus is one of my favorite things to listen to when I'm going on about science fiction. Truly great stuff. Also agreed with whoever posted Jeremy Soule - the guy is honestly my favorite composer.

Halo has a really underrated soundtrack:

The latest Devil May Cry had a pretty kickass soundtrack too. Yeah there were those same old generic metal guitar tracks but this one really stood out.

The entire soundtrack for Red Dead Redemption was gold too. The best in my opinion. Had the movie-like feeling to it.

AGAIN?

That's the fourth topic made about OST's this year... err... well the last 12 months.

Anyway:

Jade Cocoon is my favorite. But Battletoads in Battlemaniacs is good too and Street Racer. Most SNES games had quite a good OST.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Absolutely amazing. Very calming, dark-ish, but not too dark. Just perfect.

Frozen Synapse

This game has some great soundtrack, really fits the theme of it all. Great game, too.

Sim City 4

I think this song might be from Rush Hour, but nevertheless, the whole soundtrack is amazing. Makes the game more enjoyable.

Limbo

An amazing soundtrack for an amazing game. So atmospheric, so perfectly dark, with a hint of mystery. Absolutely perfect.

Machinarium

Fun point & click puzzle game, great soundtrack.

I'm surprised no one has bought up Max Payne 3. The whole OST was freaking awesome. And i'm not talking about TEARS, i'm talking about the whole soundtrack of the game.

^ Funny, I was going to bring that up when the topic was created but lost my train of thought somewhere down the line... (no that's not meant to be sounding sarcastic if it was inclined to be that way, if it was sounding sarky then I apologise)

...speaking of it, here is my favourite symphonic track on the OST:

Max Payne 3 is an underrated masterpiece of a game, story-wise and technologically-wise.

Regarding non-Rockstar games, I am quite fond of soundtracks in Bethesda's games, mainly The Elder Scrolls. They have some really great scores that are very similar to those found in fantasy and historic epic films. Skyrim in my opinion is probably the best soundtrack in the series, how each song really matches the atmosphere and situations within the game. The Fallout games have good scores as well. They remind me of war films almost. Some old Nintendo games like Mario and Zelda are ones I find to be very nostalgic.

Being very loyal to Rockstar (but not wanting to be labeled a fanboy), I do like alot of Rockstar soundtracks. I am a fan of the synth-based soundtrack in Manhunt alot. Just the way it gets more tense depending on how much danger you are in and how it suits the games atmosphere perfectly. It sounds alot like a score in an old John Carpenter film like Escape from New York or The Fog. Red Dead Redemption's soundtrack brilliantly captures the feel of old spaghetti westerns and Health's score for Max Payne 3 is a fantastic piece of work that really keeps the action going. An early Rockstar game with a good soundtrack was the original Midnight Club from 2000. It had some really cool techno/drum-and-bass beats throughout, brings back memories as it was the first PS2 game I can remember playing.

There's loads other game soundtracks that I like but these were just notable mentions for me.
