This.

hope the is classic XMB settings in the PS4 menu somewhere - hate clutter on my PC desktop and everything tucked away in folders - the new XMB just looks messy.

I think Sony took note of how much money Microsoft made off of the advertisement revenue generated from the 360's XMB.

Bad news.

Guy from Eurogamer posted a tweet about "RAM Drama". Article has been delayed because Sony wants to post a statement before.

I've already preordered the PS4 based on it being more powerful than the Xbox. They had better not piss us off haha

The guy who made the tweet updated his twitter: "Keep calm people! It's info about how the memory works(?) and that's it. Nothing bad!"

Then it most likely the week old article from english eurogamer which have an interview with ubisoft dev who explained how they ported The Crew on the PS4 with only 2-3 men in 6 months. In that interview they explained how the RAM works. But even that was old as Mark Cerny already explained it in depth.

XMB was great because they couldn't really shove anything in your face.

Not shoving anything in your face? So you weren't bothered by getting this:

instead of your own custom background, every time you started your PS3?
And with all the unnecessary sh*t Microsoft had on its dashboard, it was still faster to get access to important features. Have you ever compared checking out Trophies vs. checking out Achievements? Or reading a message someone sent you? Or merely checking if you have new messages? I'm sorry to say, but I've raged many times at the PS3's XMB, while I've had no such experiences with the 360's dashboard and guide.

And it happened...
http://neogaf.com/sh...ad.php?t=635306

PS4 has even less RAM for games than X1. Only 4.5 GB. 1 GB flexible RAM. Rest is OS...
Thats a huge let down to me. Still would get PS4 over X1 but this will defenitly a bottleneck in the future

They also said that before the 8GB Upgrade the PS4 only had 512MB for games. No wonder that MS was so confident with their 8GB DDR. MS defenitly would have had the lead if PS4 only would have 4 GB RAM

I have trouble believing this. Why the hell would it take THAT MUCH RAM? It's not like they're running all the different operating systems that the Xbox is. If it's due to the 15 minutes recording thing, I'm f*cking angry. It's a cool feature but it shouldn't be at the expense of so much gaming performance

I know that, I'm talking about how the XBO has 5GB while the PS4 has the possible 5.5GB

I don't get why people are so worried considering we didn't even have a gig last gen.

Ill bring that up again in 2 years. RAM was the biggest problem this gen and the less RAM the quicker we will have issues again.

I mean the OS has almost the amount of the RAM which is allocated for games...

First off, it's Eurogamer. They also said that PS4 only could record 7 minutes of gameplay. Second, wait for Sony to make an official comment. Why the hell would they make a big deal about giving developers an extra 4gb if they're just going to bloat the OS?

Yep, Eurogamer's source is based only on a Killzone presentation, shown back in February... monocle.gif

And you know that this would mean that before the upgrade the PS4 only had 512MB for games which is just a small bit more than current gen. ( current gen OS did use almost nothing, that makes this 3.5GB OS even more weird)
X1 has 3 different OSs running simultaniously which explains the need of 3GB for it.
But F*CK... how can Sony need 3.5 GB super fast GDDR5 RAM for a single OS

Well, if what iNero says is true, Sony can go f*ck themselves. Otherwise i'm waiting for what Sony says. I wasn't even planning to get a PS4, but now it's confirmed for me.

I can understand the disappointment, but PS4's ram is still better than Xbone's. Like Erebos said, it's a lot of ram and games will still look next-gen.

I don't see how this is possible, to be honest.

I'm waiting for Sony's statement. It's ridiculous to do this just a few months away, after E3 and their original conference.

It's not real until Sony says otherwise. Neogaf is just having the usual kneejerk reaction.

Look at the Playstation Vita. 512mb for games and 128mb VRAM for a quick, responsive multitasking OS. And it has cross-game voice chat for god's sake. What could make PS4's OS 3.5gb?

4.5 GB might sound much. In 1 or 2 years .ost GPUs will have at least 3-4 GB GDDR5 RAM.
I mean the GPU alone plus the usual 8 GB DDR3.
You know that this will hold back gaming development very quickly for a long time. Not because of GPU or CPU but bscause of RAM. Theres a lot of new stuff which can be done with more RAM and thats one thing you cant downgrade for consoles only optimize it.

And yes with only 512 mb ram this gen we had games like TLoU but these games would have been even better with more RAM. Like many devs said, RAM was the biggest bottleneck this gen.

4.5 GB used by CPU and GPU at the same time could bring limitations sooner than we thought.

Perhaps the game sharing??? Where you can transfer the controls to another user online if you are in a tight spot.

Maybe it would have something to do with the screen sharing on tablets or Vita.

No way that would need much RAM at all. All of that is handled by a secondary chip
Only thing would.be the 15 min recording. And even that cant need that much. I just cant believe that it needs that much of such a fast RAM...

Guess we will have to wait for an official statement to understand it better. Maybe there is a feature we don't know about yet... could cutting out load times almost completely eat up the RAM???

For that the RAM has to be allocated to games.

And Sony wont respond unless it false info. So far they havent respond.

But I cant think of any feature which would be worth such a huge amount.

I don't know a whole lot about it, I am ignorant as f*ck right now, so can you throw some knowledge my way? If this true, what does less game allocated ram do to the performance of the game? like the Frame rate, resolution antialiasing and stuff like that?

Pop ins, stuttering, high res textures are bigger, AI/pathfinding , physics and such stuff... theres actually a lot.
This wont affect the games yet but in probably 1-2 years...
Especially for Open world games, more RAM would offer so much.
