Nope.

I've only tried this angle just to see what's above some places, other than that I thought it was just in place for nostalgia. It'd be pretty difficult to complete the game this way.

No, I absolutely hate top down view in GTA III. It's 3D game and top down view is just making it unplayable imo. BTW I'm either blind or something because I can't find that top-down walkthrough on your channel. monocle.gif

That mission is actually tricky, especially if you want to collect all the girls.

It'd take a lot of trial and error for most missions. Like Bomb da base II, you'd have to run onto the ship instead of sniping.

Or just get a rocket launcher and blow everyone up. icon14.gif
Did same thing on the mission "Sayonara Salvatore" (The mission where you snipe him and the Mafia hate you)

The first time I played GTAIII in 2002 was using the top down view. Indeed my cousins computer was too slow to be able to play it normally. I thought that GTAIII was top down until I played it again a year later, then I realised that it was the same game. But it would be damn hard to finish the game like that. Sometimes I use it for like a few minutes but I get tired really fast,

Only to go on rampages. I could never use it to complete the story.

I have actually. It wasn't too difficult, but some missions were significantly harder (Waka Gashira Wipeout and S.A.M. come to mind).

I've never thought about using it until now, will try it on my next run when I have a break from new releases.

One notable thing about playing in top down mode is that the faster you drive, the less cars will spawn in front of you. The same goes for the cinematic camera.

No, I haven't. I'm not even going to try it. I really don't like using Top-Down view at all, which is why I dislike GTA 1 and 2.

I haven't yet tried it, but I bet I will one day. This is an aspect of the game that I have left undiscovered, and as a GTA III lover, I will get down to it eventually - simply in order to reveal yet another aspect this marvellous game has to offer - and a unique feature that was absent in all consequent 3D GTA games.

In actual fact it would not be too unbearable because at certain points it wont be top down (cutscenes, Rocket Launcher, Sniper Rifle, M16, driving under tunnels...). I will have a go at playing it later

If you really desire to play the game in top down view, then I suggest you make it in GTA2 style. For this you have to follow one big tip:
Do not use the 'aim' button on any weapon with auto-aim. Just rotate Claude and make hum face the direction you want to shoot in. Same goes for M16. Don't use the manual aim. Instead use the 'Rotate'n'shoot' style that was present in GTA2.

Unfortunately, this does not apply to the Sniper Rifle and the Rocket Launcher. So count yourself lucky there (while I consider myself unlucky on that part... tounge.gif )

It was just a recommendation though... The actual style of gameplay is solely up to you.

Good luck.

I don't know why people have problems with this view. I don't find it too hard to navigate GTA 1 and 2 at all, for one thing you can see BEHIND you...which was really good for some chaotic missions in those games. You don't have to move any camera and disrupt any other view you are using...just move your eyes a bit. As for seeing what is in-front of you....loads of room. And when driving fast the camera is even nice enough to zoom out so you can see.

The irony is people complain about not seeing ahead in the top down games and going too fast can make you crash...yet the pop up of items, cars and people in the third person GTA games is terrible....nothing spawns until it's about 3 feet away from you. Especially when you move the camera away when nothing is there...then move it back and BAM you've just rear ended a car that just spawned right there in-front of your car when you weren't looking. So speeding can be just as fatal in the later games as the top down ones, even if you aren't doing any fancy camera work. Another thing is when they de spawn when close to you because you looked away for a split second...the car you wanted/needed? Gone, because you lost sight of it for 2 seconds from having to move the camera because something else nearly ran you down. At least in the top down games you had an all round view and didn't need to worry about that...always in the screen. Even if you went away and came back, high chances are it is still there.

They say you need quick reflexes to get around in the top down games....well you need some pretty nifty reflexes to get around the third person ones too, (Especially when a car would spawn on a side street next to you and suddenly turn towards you) which is why I never really understood what the problem was for people with the top down games. So to me, both views have their problems.

The only top down thing is that I couldn't get into was in GTA 3, it just rained a lot of was really foggy...visibility is limited due to these things normally in normal view....at least the top down games had no weather.

Well, I wasn't necessarily considering it unbearable for me in the first place, that was just a thought. When I play it, I will take your points into consideration, I'm sure it can't be so hard.
