So, as all of you should know, the protagonist in GTA III was planned to be a whole different guy named Novy.
Just now, I noticed that his name, if I understand how to pronounce it correctly, sounds similar to Russian word translating as “new“. (sorry for not typing the Russian word in, didn't have the keyboard drivers)
Why I think it is that way, is because GTA III was something new in gaming and GTA franchise. What do you think?

It is from Tom Novy most likely, but I know what you mean - I dont think so. It wasnt protag exactly.

I doubt Rockstar would take the first name of a non-Russian protagonist in a non-Russian game with non-Russian characters from a Russian word. confused.gif

1st, Novy was never the protagonist of GTA III. You can see the screenshots of the game during it's development and you'll never find him as protagonist.

As it has been said already, Novy was going to appear in the game, but not as protagonist Claude has always been protagonist Novy's character is based on Tom Novy who is a singer. His character was cut from game together with his song "Back to the streets" (or at least something like that is song called).

His song "Back to the Streets" was prominently used in the German PS2 preview:

Sweet Airtrain destruction at the end!

Blowing up aircraft would be awesome if it crashed in city it would caused massacre. tounge.gif Well it's strange that Tom Novy was meant to be in game, I mean he didn't suit anywhere in storyline let alone radio etc.

Song is horrible.

The same my brother said, for me it OK, but not great.
Is there any way to restore being able to destroy Airtrain or is it hardcoded into gta3.exe?

It is possible to mod it.

^Yeah but he is asking if it's possible to restore it from original game files. Well, I doubt it because they most likely took it out from game due to what happened in 2001.

The collision file for airtrain (airtrain.col) is still inside vehicles.col:

It doesn't have anything to do with collision. Remember that the Dodo (DEADDODO) that flies around the city isn't collidable, you will pass right through it whilst flying with a regular Dodo. I looked inside default.ide and compared the lines for deaddodo and the plane (airtrain) and there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the two. My guess would be that the only way to make it explode is to edit the executable.

But you can blow up DEADDODO. I don't see a reason why you shouldn't be able to do the same with Airtrain after restoring this collision file. But I could be wrong though I don't really know much about modding, best would be to ask in modding forum I suppose.

That's what I was trying to say. The Airtrain has a collision file already and it's unused just like with the Deaddodo, and you can blow up the Deaddodo which means it has nothing to do with collision.

I've done some testing, and sadly, it's not possible to destroy the Airtrain like in the beta, as its hardcoded in the executable. All Beta mods replaces the DeadDodo model with the Airtrain one (and vice versa), changes the flight*.dat files to make DeadDodo fly like an Airtrain, giving the illusion that you're destroying the Airtrain when you're not. End of story.
