GTA V does take place on the west coast were mafias don't really have influence. I believe there should be cartels instead because the cartels control the west coast. The mafia did have influence in cali back in the day but were kicked out for many reasons. The cartels control the west coast today with their small hispanic gangs distributing the products. In conclusion, Los Santos is based on Los Angeles were mafias have no influence and cartels control the black market. I want to hear from all the clan community on GTA IV and anybody that can give their opinion. P.S. No hate on the mafia clans in GTA IV.

Mafias have a pretty strong influence in the west, bro. Just look at all of the casinos they own and sh*t...

Not really. The mafia got kicked out of those casinos along time ago. They did a documentary about it.

Just cause they made a documentary doesn't mean they're out. They could be still there

True true but I doupt it because I'm sure that the mafia can't compete with the cartel which is 10x stronger then the mafia today. I heard these days that the mafia only controls the Northeast/ Northcentral regions of the United states.

I'm sure I posted in a similar topic just a couple of days ago.

They might make an appearance but their role & influence in modern day LA is so diminished, it wouldn't be worth it. Anyway, they had their limelight in IV & it's time for newer more authentic gangs/cartels for today's Los Santos.

No bro, not true at all. The Mafia have long lost their influence and control of casinos on the West Coast, law enforcement authorities have completely smashed their power in that area. I'm guessing you are talking about the Mafia's past dominance of Las Vegas, which is long a thing of the past. In any case, I'm almost sure Las Vegas (Las Venturas) will not be in GTA V anyway.

On topic : Like I've said many times on here before, I would like to see some Mafia presence in GTA V - but only just to play a very small role, seeing as the Mafia have very little influence and power in the real-life Los Angeles criminal underworld. This has been the case for many decades now. I wanna see more involvement of more relevant crime groups in modern-day LA like Mexican drug cartels and Armenian gangsters. Street gangs should be a standard inclusion of course.

No doubt there will be organized crime groups in GTA V. Thats practically the case with every GTA, but I think it will definitely be on a smaller scale and more focused on the 3 protags.

Itd be interesting to focus more on corruption in the government. Iaa,fib, etc etc. A little less plausible will be corruption in entertainment industry, but that would be interesting as well.

Key word bro, they had influence there. Had is past tense, the Mafia are not powerful on the West Coast anymore, that is nothing new. Nobody said there were no Mafia groups operating Los Angeles, there probably is, but the fact remains that they have a very small presence and very little influence on organized crime there in real life.

Either way, the Mafia's been overdone and I'd rather see something new.

No they don't not really. Triads are more powerful and influential in San Francisco, they have a strong presence there, but not Los Angeles. The Yakuza probably exist in Los Angeles, because there is a bit of a significant Japanese community in downtown LA, but they hardly figure as major players in the city's criminal underworld. The Yakuza barely exist in LA.

More realistically being true to LA organized crime, we should see a lot of the various, different Hispanic and Black street gangs, Mexican drug cartels, Armenian gangsters, to some lesser extent the Russian Mob and outlaw biker gangs.

I know Hispanic gangsters rule the streets of LA but never notice that Mexican drug cartels also actually exist in LA.

Mexican drug cartels certainly do exist in LA. But not in the same way as they do in Mexico itself. The Mexican drug cartels have many of their own direct members operating in LA in what are known as "cells" - smaller groups that are there to oversee and carry out various instructions, orders, business dealings and other acts on behalf of the cartels. These cartel cells usually operate very discreetly and covertly, but still remain very powerful, highly organized and extremely dangerous. You won't just see these cells openly operating in the streets like street gangs, they don't work like that. The cells are the primary go-between for the Mexican drug cartels and their business dealings with the LA street gangs, both Hispanic and Black.

Watch that movie called End Of Watch, it's brilliant and it gives a very realistic portrayal of what I've mentioned. I've also read up on this too.
