Once again, I was thinking what the GI Article was talking about in terms of the driving experience being something like a racing game. This got me thinking quiet deeply into the detail R* will put, we have had quiet some topics regarding this for example Physics , Customization and etc, however I have not seen anyone talk about this.

I have always wanted realistic car sounds for example an exotic car should sound very different to a 4x4 car, in GTA IV they did not put so much effort into car sounds almost all of the cars sounded the same if you went full speed or just in general when you are accelerating the car. I want more Realistic sounds, The Cheetah should be sound like a monster comparing it to the ordinary saloon cars also the 4x4 SUV's should sound different to Exotic cars, American muscles should sound how an american muscle should be sounded. here are some examples

Ferrari

Muscle Car

Range Rover

I hope these examples give you a good impression of what I am talking about, I would also like to point out that its not impossible to implement this into GTA V because we have it in many other Racing games that are being published now a days. I hope R* puts an effort into this because it makes the experience of driving a specific car in a specific place more realistic and FUN!

Lol, you guys. EDIT: oops looks like the comments above are gone... I think they should put a bit more effort in the car sounds this time too.

GTA IV has good car sounds compared to other games of the genre, but of course they can do better. Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

I think no game whatsoever to this day has had any good car sounds. I don't know why but its true, they are always so "synthesized" and "boring", its really something new-gen hasn't improved much!

I do know what you are talking about but there is a problem; a huge openworld game like GTA consists of a great ammount of audio files which need the most storage out of all files and that is why videogame developers need to carefully choose each audio file. Higher quality sounds, and/or a greater variety of sounds would result in audio files needing more storage but as you might know, there is a limitation. The discs of the XBox 360 have 8.5GB of storage, yet only about 7GB are actually dedicated for games and the PlayStation 3 uses Blu-Ray discs which have 25GB or 50GB of storage. I really would not expect a massive improvement with GTA V, we can only hope that the new consoles won't have such limitations. That does not necessarily mean that there will not be any improvements in GTA V, just nothing significant.

Much more than car sounds, I think gun sounds are terrible in GTAIV (except for that sweet auto pistol in GTA:TLAD! icon13.gif

Anyone who has fired a real gun or at least heard one, know the noise it makes. Video games seem to have gun sounds that are more like airsoft guns than real guns. GTA IV had poor gun sounds in my opinion, besides there is never echo. Furthermore, when you are being shot at from a distance, sounds should be a bit different. Gun sounds are higher than most other sounds, be it voices, cars, whatever so GTA V's weapons should make loud realistic noises! rampage_ani.gif

My favorite car in the game, the Rancher, has some pretty solid truck engine sounds, beefy, but just enough so its not cartoony.

I loved the sound of forced induction they added onto some cars in IV. Like the turbo spooling in the Faction, and the supercharger belt whine on the Dukes

Something realistic that would be actually nice to have. icon14.gif

This would be cool, IMO.

GTA IV sounds really pissed me off. Almost all of the cars in the street made a hoover noise, or something close to it anyway. It only dissapeared once you hit 60 kmph, but while the gears were changing it sounded like a poor Charlie constantly getting blocked.

I hope these get improved - and I have no doubt they will. An old saying goes: do you want to make people happy? Make things bad and then revert them back to what they were.

To be honest IV was pretty good with sounds, with the exception of most of the supercars(which sounded like electric razors with gearboxes) and some vehicles. The motorcycles were really good.

- Here are the things I would love to be fixed and or added:
Clearer and more exciting exhaust pops
Louder revs(I like to rev really nice cars sometimes and it's just disappointing when they are too quiet)
Higher revving engines(I'm sure even with a rev limiter a M3 knock off wouldn't sound like it tops off at 1,000rpms) dozingoff.gif
More exciting shifting sounds(supercars are supposed to sound exciting, loud, fun. NFS Most Wanted almost did this well where when you shifted it sounded so intense
Very distinct sounds. I put a Mafia Schafter right next to a 2nd Gen. Schafter. When I revved them both, they sounded the same. Look, I know they're the same exact engine, but they still wouldn't sound exactly the same. I would love it if R* put a little more detail in and made the sounds very distinct

Whoever filmed that Range Rover sport video is a complete halfwit. Sounded like sh*t.
Normally they sound good. Somehow they managed to ruin it.

Realistic car sounds would be nice.

I'm feeling that post right there JBanton.

One thing that I never quite heard in IV was any supercharger whining. I hope this gets addressed for GTA V.

I could also do with some more UEL exhaust manifold sounds like the Sultan in IV.

Game inforer did quote that the driving experience has changed, it feels alot more like a racing game however they did not go into detail about what specifically has changed other than the handling, however from trailer 1 we can see Franklin hitting the acceleration pedal which made some kind of a noise in which the ped reacted to it.

I hope there's less sound sharing in GTA V and hope there are better sound-model relationships as well.

I remember a debate about the F620, having a turbocharged V8 model and then producing the sound and revolution range of a V10, for R* to then tell us that it actually was a turbo V10 even though it clearly had a V8 under the bonnet confused.gif

I'm with ya on all of that! Not only should cars sound more realistic, and vastly different, but the horns should be assigned to the correct vehicles also. I always found it annoying as hell that a big truck had a little Japanese car horn.

Little horns on big vehicles are actually quite common. The higher pitch noise is supposed to stand out against the noise of the truck.
Of course there are big vehicles with big horns, but just saying that is the reason they were like that.
