The enterprise would be too big to fit down the trench.

That was just a model, not the real one.

Y-wings have a width of 16 meters and the trench looked like it could just about fit three of them side by side. So whilst the trench could not accommodate the saucer portion of the U.S.S Enterprise, Captain Kirk could probably ride it with the bottom section.

It's the obvious move. JJ has no directing going on down the road, and he's still involved with the movies.

I thought that JJ would do it, as he said he loved doing The Force Awakens and wished he'd signed on for all three.

So with it known that JJ will be doing Episode IX I think it's time to spoil who Snoke is...

USS Defiant might do that,or at least take the role of Millenium Falcon,at Both Death Stars.

Stars Wars was cute in '77, the middle one was my favorite and the conclusion was good.

The rest isn't really of any value, it's great for the kids though.

Being that I'm 50 years old I can probably say a few things on the subject. In 1977 I was a 10 year old kid living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Back then the only sci-fi we had was The Planet of the Apes series, THX-1138, Space 1999, and The Six Million Dollar Man. Star Trek was starting to get some steam through re-runs.

Then Star Wars came along.

It started slow (released around Memorial Day) but really took off during the summer. Shortly after starting fifth grade the class went to see it as a field trip - that was my first viewing. The movie affected everything - trends, music, TV shows, etc. Even our fifth grade Christmas play at school was SW based - I was C-3PO (the few pictures taken from that ended up being destroyed by the Texas heat years later). I even watched the infamous Christmas Special (however I barely have any memories of it). Of course, by Christmas, the new toys started coming out and that is when it started to become the merchandising machine it has now become.

It needs to be pointed out that back then there were no cell phones and VCRs - if you wanted to watch a movie you had to go to the theater or wait for it to come to network television (in edited form). It wasn't uncommon to have movies stay for months before making room for new ones. Some theaters showed Star Wars for as long as two years. By then (1979) the first wave of sci-fi films inspired by SW started to come out. Star Trek got into the action in November of that year, released at about the same time as The Black Hole (I remember the family trying to get to see ST:TMP but the line was too long so we settled on TBH instead). That summer James Bond got into the act with Moonraker. And, about the same time as that, one of my all time favorite films was released: Alien. It should be pointed out that, at the age of 12, I was too young to see that at initial release but my father took me to see it in 1981 when it came back around as a double feature with Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

What I'm trying to say is yes, Star Wars is cheesy by today's standards but, back then, there was nothing like it and captured people's imagination like nothing else before and changed everything. You kinda had to be there to fully understand it but that is something that the current generation cannot do (but old guys like me can brag about).

Fun fact: Back when I was living in San Francisco from 1989 to 1993 I did some gametesting work for LucasFilm Games. It was a four month temporary position so I wasn't able to stay long. I did work on two games: The Defenders of Dynatron City (NES - uncreditied) and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (The Action Game) (PC, Amiga, C64 - credited). One more thing - you can criticize George all you want about how he has handled his films and the prequels and all that but the man knows how to throw a f*cking Chrismas party.....

Holy cow hype level one million. Looks awesomely grand in scale, and potentially heartbreaking again. I'm ready to tell my wife in advance that I may yet again cry like a baby if certain people bite the dust, much like a did when Han perished.

This looks damn good. I don't even know what to expect in terms of story.

There was a lot to take in during that trailer. From the looks of it (don't click if you haven't seen the trailer and don't want to know):

OK, now that trailer has got me a lot more interested in it now, considering the last ones were quite poor.

But I got 30 seconds into it and got very distracted by the music, as I'd heard it somewhere before...

Confirmed... Serious Sam is The Last Jedi
